Job Description

MRCE is in search of an Resident Engineer who is ready to kickstart their career with a leading engineering consulting company in New York City. Our Resident Engineers are exposed to various geotechnical foundation challenges, providing opportunities to learn from experienced engineers and leadership and tackle technical challenges on complex engineering projects. Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits and available information research for new opportunities
  • Perform pre and post-condition surveys of buildings and structures;
  • Work under supervision of design engineers or project managers.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and RFIs. Communicate any discrepancies or conflicts in the field in accordance with the design documents.
  • Perform subsurface investigations, including inspecting and logging borings, field soil classifications, test pits, cone penetration probes, and various field testing.
  • Perform inspections for new foundation construction, including but not limited to deep and shallow foundations, subgrade preparation, support of excavation structures, underpinning systems, and pile load tests.
  • Maintain daily logs and forms, and communicate investigation or construction progress with the project manager.
  • Assist in preparing inspection logs and reports for construction approval and Code compliance.
  • Perform instrumentation monitoring for buildings, transit facilities, etc., including seismographs and crack gauges.
  • Assist Instrumentation Engineers with instrument installs in buildings or subways as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel locally by car or public transportation,
  • Travel long-distance involving train or air travel for extended stays.
  • Inspection needs are often not full-time at one site, but may require visits to several sites in one week, or one day. Some assignments may require daily commute to areas outside of the urban centers.
  • The Resident Engineer team utilizes the MRCE office between work assignments and throughout a day where several area projects require support. Daily commute transportation to and from the office is not reimbursed; costs above that amount are reimbursed (tolls, mileage, etc.), but travel time is determined case by case.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program;

  • 0-5 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training or registered for PE/FE examination;
  • Readiness to spend a majority of time in the field for short or long-term projects;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Capable of working independently and collaborating with team;
  • Capable of professionally representing themselves and the company on sites and with clients.

Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000. Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications and credentials. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
