Job description

Under the leadership of the Manager, Data Warehouse a Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for monitoring, securing and tuning of all Microsoft SQL Server corporate databases not handled by vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring primarily consists of automating routine process to validate database systems are performing within mandated tolerances and to alert or take action when performance is deemed marginal.
  • Securing includes routine backup procedures, disaster recovery procedures, and security group maintenance and all the automation used to perform these activities.
  • Tuning consists of consulting on query structure, introducing beneficial indexes, and working with other IT organizations to optimize hardware.
  • Requires minimal supervision for routine tasks. Some guidance required for more complex tasks.
  • Participates in team discussions and design sessions. May represent DBA on cross functional teams.
  • Facilitates with business and other IT orgs during requirements gathering, refinement, demonstrations and trainings.
  • Complies with and contributes to development guidelines; performs code reviews.
  • Respects organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrates their connection to purpose at Hill. Help team mates develop/find their purpose.
  • This role involves independent tasks and partly complex tasks solved predominantly through own decision-making.
  • Projects that are small in scope, risk, and/or organizational span, including subprojects of larger, more complex projects.

Required Experience and Professional Skills:

  • 5 years experience administering Microsoft SQL Server Databases required.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and apply them to solve business problems.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Project, Visio, and collaboration tools
  • Ability to multi-task is evident. Eager to learn and participate.

Required Education and Certifications:

  • BS in Computer science or MIS preferred.
  • Has or is working toward certification relevant to specialty.

Salary: $135,000 - $150,000

This position will offer (an up to 8%) annual bonus earning potential and offers a full suite of benefits including up to 6.5% 401k matching.

PLEASE NOTE: We are only seeking candidates who are in/near San Ramon (or Sacramento), CA and willing to work a hybrid (two days per week) work schedule. However, we may be able to consider hiring remotely for an outstanding candidate who is living more than 100 miles from one of our offices in CA, or out of state in AZ, HI, ID, IL, NV, NJ, NY, PN, TN, TX, WA, or WI – other states a lot less likely of a possibility, but not completely out of the question
