Job Title:
Senior Data Scientist (AI/ML & LLMs)

Type of Position:
This position will begin as an initial 3-month contract, with potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 3 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as well depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members.

Candidate Requirements:
This role is ONLY open to US Citizens. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and any other work authorizations are NOT permitted here as this role requires eligibility to obtain a secret clearance (a secret clearance is only open to US Citizens). To be clear, a clearance isnt required to start (but all candidates must be eligible to obtain one eventually). Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).

Job Location:
Manassas, VA (on site role).
Compensation:
We are targeting $80.00/hr to $85.00/hr, but there may be additional flexibility for well qualified candidates. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

  • Available (health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, etc) benefit eligibility begins the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
  • This role will have 7 paid holidays and 10 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.

Overview:
HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a leading defense contractor. Join our Enterprise Advanced Data Analytics team as a Senior Data Scientist, where you will contribute to enterprise-level complex business solutions. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge AI and machine learning solutions for large-scale operations. We are seeking a skilled professional with 6+ years of experience in building and deploying machine learning algorithms, focusing on AI/ML and large language models. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying robust algorithms to address challenging business problems spanning supply chain, factory operations, workforce, and logistics. Collaboration with stakeholders will be essential to translate business requirements into actionable, data-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and deploy robust machine learning algorithms, including those utilizing large language models.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Conduct data discovery and analysis, including cleaning, preprocessing, and transforming raw data to ensure quality and integrity.
  • Create visualizations and insights to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and train large language models using deep learning techniques (e.g., transformers, RNNs).

Skills, Education, Experience Required:
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on generative AI and machine learning.
  • Expertise in large language models (LLMs) and their applications.
  • Experience with Agent + RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems in data science and AI.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., langchain, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Skilled in using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based services and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Dataiku).

Skills, Education, Experience Preferred:
  • Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with large datasets and in high-performance computing environments.
  • Solid foundation in data modeling, statistical inference, and a variety of machine learning techniques.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • Experience with Docker/containerization and familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Background in cloud-based data warehousing and big data processing tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Apache Spark).
  • Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

Additional Information:
  • The ideal candidate will be capable of ingesting Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) systems documentation (user guides, development manuals, DB ERDs, training materials, etc.) and creating application data mappings to a business normalization standard such as OAGI (Open Applications Group Integration Specification).
  • This will support enterprise data mapping solutions by providing:
  • Standardization: A consistent data model for reliable information sharing across applications.
  • Interoperability: Creation of standardized "business language" for data exchanges between disparate systems.

Work Environment:
  • This is a 1st (day) shift role on a 9/80 schedule. Typical hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm with every other Friday off (Fridays worked are a shortened 6-hour day).
  • This will be an on-site role (no remote work).
  • There may be occasional overtime in this role. Any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
  • Offer may be contingent on a background check and a drug screening, which would include testing for cannabis. There would be no exceptions to the drug screening (eg: for individuals with a medical marijuana card).
