Summary

The AWS/SQL Senior Database Engineer, Plano will work closely with engineering team members to design, develop, and enhance Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database solutions. This role requires deep expertise in AWS and SQL technologies, with an emphasis on AWS RDS, Aurora, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. You will play a pivotal role in modernizing our database infrastructure and ensuring data reliability and performance across our global systems.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $120K – $140K
  • Bonus: 10% discretionary yearly bonus (based on performance)

Duties and Responsibilities

As an AWS/SQL Senior Database Engineer, Plano, you will:

  • Design, implement, and optimize AWS database solutions, including Amazon RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
  • Lead database migrations from on-premises SQL Server to AWS while ensuring high availability, minimal downtime, and data integrity.
  • Use AWS tools and services such as CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS Backup, and AWS IAM to support database automation, security, and monitoring.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for database deployments using AWS tools like CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and AWS Lambda for automation.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and security teams to harden AWS and SaaS applications, implement security controls, and conduct security audits.
  • Develop and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, and SSIS packages to ensure optimized performance.
  • Actively contribute to matrixed product development teams by providing expertise on the design and tuning of database objects, queries, and overall data architecture.
  • Monitor long-running transactions and optimize performance using index tuning and advanced T-SQL coding techniques.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and support the implementation and release of database changes.
  • Document technical environments, configurations, and processes as needed.

You will be expected to bring strong problem-solving skills, collaborate effectively across teams, and lead database modernization initiatives that improve scalability and performance across the organization.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • In-depth SQL knowledge, including advanced tuning and optimization skills.
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with clustering, replication, and log shipping.
  • Proficiency with AWS tools and database technologies (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in small, agile teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and self-motivation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in database development or engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and SSIS is required.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages is a plus.
