Lead Architect - Veeam Backup and Storage

Pay: $85-110/hr.

Location: Fully remote

Type: Short contract

Hours: This is a project-based role. The first 4 weeks will involve 40+ hours of work architecting the new backup solution for the customer. From there, the engineering and PMO teams will take over, so there will be very few hours needed for the architect after that point. Expect a few sporadic hours each month until the end of the project in October – just to keep things on track. Very minimal.

JOB SUMMARY: As Veeam Backup Lead Architect, you will serve as the design authority for deploying Veeam 12 across 27 enterprise sites as part of a critical post-breach infrastructure rebuild. You will own the AWS-isolated control plane, hardened Linux immutable repositories, Wasabi cloud tier, and ArcServe retirement strategy while ensuring ransomware-resilient architecture. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Author the comprehensive Veeam 12 reference architecture including AWS isolated-forest control plane, VBR cluster topology, Veeam ONE, Enterprise Manager, and hardened Linux repositories with XFS immutability.
• Define the 4-tier site deployment model with detailed bill of materials and standardized runbooks for consistent global rollout.
• Lead Phase 1 discovery and architecture activities including inventory validation, tiering decisions, and sign-off on AWS, Wasabi, and Linux designs.
• Oversee core platform deployment in AWS isolated forest and golden hardened Linux repository configurations.
• Direct Tier-1 HQ deployments and provide technical sign-off on site deployment runbooks used by L3 engineers and offshore teams.
• Design and execute ArcServe retirement strategy with parallel-run cutover validation and production transition.
• Serve as escalation authority during peak 24x7 deployment windows and provide on-call support for critical design decisions.
• Validate and build hardened Linux repositories with XFS immutability and SSH lockdown where team expertise requires supplementation.
• Ensure ransomware resilience through 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategies and post-breach architecture best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across APAC, EMEA, and US time zones to meet aggressive project timelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10+ years backup and storage architecture experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Current VMCA Veeam Certified Architect Veeam 12.
• Expert hardened Linux XFS immutable repositories and AWS control plane.
• Production Wasabi S3 immutable cloud tier and ArcServe migration.
• Proven post-breach recovery and large-scale enterprise deployments.
