Job description

AquaPhoenix Scientific, located in Hanover, PA, has an immediate opening for a Junior Backend Software Engineer to join our growing technology team. In this role, you will assist in designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs that power our AWS based applications. Requires an ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, end users, SaaS team) to deliver high-quality software solutions to ensure the back-end infrastructure is robust, efficient and scalable.

This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates and/or individuals that have a strong technical foundation in backend software, computer technology, and/or similar background and experience. This is a full-time position based in Hanover, PA. Remote opportunities may exist for the right qualified candidate.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs.
  • Implement database functionalities, including designing schema, writing efficient queries, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications to optimize performance.
  • Monitor and maintain the health and performance of the backend infrastructure.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to ensure the backend infrastructure is up-to-date.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, and PHP.
  • Experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
  • Familiarity with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and web services.
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Detail oriented with strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Capacity to complete assigned tasks successfully, on time, and accurately.
  • Valid US driver’s license with the ability to travel infrequently.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of security best practices for backend development.
