Position Overview
The Chautauqua County Department of Information Technology Services is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Security Analyst to join our team. This full-time position plays a critical role in protecting County network infrastructure from cybersecurity threats and ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations.
The Network Security Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security incidents, maintaining network security systems, and collaborating with IT teams to integrate security protocols into all phases of network design and operations. The incumbent will exercise independent judgment in threat detection, risk mitigation, and incident investigation.
This position is filled on a provisional basis pending the outcome of a future Civil Service examination.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity using firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM systems, and related tools
- Identify, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity incidents such as malware, phishing, and unauthorized access
- Configure and maintain security tools including firewalls, antivirus software, encryption protocols, and access controls
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and recommend remediation strategies
- Assist with developing and enforcing network security policies, standards, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with security regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS
- Investigate security breaches, document findings, and prepare detailed incident reports
- Analyze logs to detect potential security threats
- Perform or assist with penetration testing
- Collaborate on backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
- Work closely with IT and system administration teams to integrate security into network design and upgrades
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following:
A. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field and two (2) years of full-time experience in network security analysis and/or cybersecurity
OR
B. Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field and four (4) years of full-time experience in network security analysis and/or cybersecurity
OR
C. Six (6) years of full-time experience in network security analysis and/or cybersecurity
Additional Requirement:
- Possession of a valid NYS driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $36.44 - $48.48 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
