Job description
Infrastructure Engineer
Overview:
WEI is seeking a motivated Infrastructure Engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in VMware vSphere and a strong foundation in networking and storage technologies.
This position is ideal for an internal IT systems engineer or administrator who’s ready to take the next step into a customer-facing consulting role. The right candidate has a genuine passion for technology, thrives on solving complex problems, and takes pride in doing things the right way — not the quick or “half-done” way.
As part of WEI’s Professional Services team, you’ll deliver design, deployment, and support services across enterprise virtualization and private cloud platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with senior architects, gain hands-on experience with advanced VMware technologies such as VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and NSX, and work directly with customers across a range of industries.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Salem, NH headquarters, with an expectation to be on-site two days per week. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required for project delivery and onsite consulting engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver and support customer-facing projects involving VMware vSphere, vSAN, and NSX technologies.
- Assist senior consultants with the design, implementation, and validation of virtualization, storage, and network solutions.
- Troubleshoot issues across compute, network, and storage layers in customer environments.
- Support customer environments through Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Automate deployment and configuration tasks using PowerShell, Python, and VMware PowerCLI.
- Participate in backup and recovery strategy design using Veeam Backup & Replication or comparable platforms such as Commvault, Rubrik, or Cohesity.
- Create Visio diagrams, technical documentation, and as-built guides for customer deliverables.
- Collaborate with WEI’s senior engineers and architects to execute customer projects with precision and professionalism.
- Maintain strong attention to security, compliance, and performance best practices in all deployments.
- Go the extra step to ensure every solution is implemented correctly, fully tested, and aligned with WEI’s quality standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- 3-5 years of experience supporting or implementing VMware vSphere environments (vCenter, ESXi).
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, TCP/IP, routing, switching).
- Experience managing or integrating enterprise storage (NFS, iSCSI, or SAN).
- Proficiency with Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell or Python for automation, scripting, and operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visio for documentation and design diagrams.
- Experience with Veeam Backup or other enterprise backup solutions (Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and customer communication skills.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
- Exposure to NSX, vSAN, Aria Suite or VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
- Experience with Nutanix AHV or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- Understanding of hybrid cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, or VMware Cloud).
- Certifications such as VCP, MCSA, or Network+.
- Prior experience in consulting, professional services, or project-based delivery.
- Experience with Ansible, Packer, or Terraform-style automation.
Personal Attributes
- Self-motivated with a passion for technology and continuous learning.
- Takes ownership and pride in ensuring every project is completed thoroughly and correctly.
- Professional presence and strong communication skills when engaging with customers.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to collaborate and share knowledge.
- Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.
- Flexible and adaptable to evolving project requirements and technologies.
