Software Engineer

General Job Description: As a software engineer at Higbee & Associates, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining software applications that support our legal processes and enhance our efficiency. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with our legal technology team, designing and implementing software solutions, and utilizing your expertise in FileMaker, JavaScript and PHP to develop innovative applications.

Role in Mission: Plays a key part in driving technological innovation at the firm, ensuring that legal processes are efficient, scalable, and technologically advanced. They help improve case management, client interactions, and overall firm productivity, aligning with the firm’s goal of leveraging technology to provide top-tier legal services.

Supervisors: Director of IT and Director of Legal Operations

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain both internal and external web and FileMaker-based applications
• Write clean and scalable code in JavaScript, PHP/Laravel, and FileMaker
• Leverage a variety of cloud services to deploy and maintain company applications
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a mixed-technology environment
• Ensure application performance, security, and reliability
• Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and other collaborative activities
• Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proficiency in one or both of JavaScript and PHP/Laravel
• Proficiency in FileMaker development
• Knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, and REST API integration
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues independently
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
• Comfortability working in an environment with legacy code and the interruptions and challenges that brings

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with full-stack development
• Experience working with the Laravel framework
• Knowledge of installing, configuring and administering FileMaker Server
• Familiarity with AWS services and cloud infrastructure (EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, etc.)
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
• Familiarity with other web technologies, frameworks, or libraries (React, Node.js, etc.)
• Experience with version control tools like Git
• Knowledge of database management systems (SQL Server, MySQL, etc.)
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Motivation to learn new technologies, strategies and processes

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
