Job description

Job Title: Senior Project Engineer & Team Lead (Cybersecurity & Infrastructure)

Location: Greater Boston Area
Type: Full-Time

Who We Are: The world of IT is always evolving! We are a premier Managed Services Provider (MSP) serving the Greater Boston area. While we provide helpdesk and network services, our primary focus is architecting the "structure of IT," with a heavy emphasis on Cybersecurity and Compliance programs.

We have been growing steadily for more than 15 years. We believe the best work comes from happy IT professionals, so we prioritize the human side of IT: minimizing burnout, enforcing lunch breaks, and investing heavily in training.

The Role: We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer who is ready to step into a leadership role. You will act as a "Player-Coach"—spending roughly half your time designing and executing complex infrastructure and cybersecurity projects, and the other half managing project timelines and leading a small team of systems engineers.

This is the ideal role for a high-level Systems Engineer who wants to remain hands-on with technology (Microsoft Azure, M365, Security Stacks) but is ready to take ownership of project delivery and mentor a talented technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Engineering & Architecture (40%)

  • Lead the design and execution of multi-layered IT projects, specifically Cybersecurity implementations (MFA, EDR/MDR, SIEM), Cloud Migrations (Azure/AWS), and Compliance rollouts.
  • Architect and administer complex Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Azure environments.
  • Design client infrastructures (Hybrid and Cloud-Native) focusing on security-first principles.
  • Perform high-level migrations for Email, Files, and Servers.

2. Project Management & Team Leadership (40%)

  • Team Management: Oversee a small team of systems engineers, assigning project tasks, monitoring workload, and providing technical mentorship.
  • Project Delivery: Manage the lifecycle of IT projects from kickoff to closeout. Ensure projects stay within scope, on time, and on budget.
  • Quality Control: Review technical documentation and project plans created by the team to ensure high standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the project team.

3. Strategy & Pre-Sales (20%)

  • Design technical solutions based on client infrastructure needs and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to recommend products, demonstrate solutions, and assist with scoping/engineering pre-sales estimates.

Required Technical Attributes:

  • Cybersecurity Depth: Proficiency with modern security standards (NIST/CIS controls) and tools (Sentinel, Huntress, or similar). Experience securing Microsoft 365 with Entra ID is critical.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure (VMs, vNet, NSGs) and Microsoft 365 (including Entra ID, Intune/Autopilot, Defender, Purview and SharePoint Online.
  • Virtualization & Storage: Proficiency with VMware, Hyper-V, and centralized storage (SAN/NAS).
  • Windows Ecosystem: Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and Group Policy.
  • Scripting: Ability to use PowerShell to automate migrations and administrative tasks.
  • Networking: Strong understanding of vLANs, VPNs, Firewalls, and routing.

Required Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Project Savvy: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, communicating timelines and expectations clearly to clients.
  • Mentorship: A desire to teach and elevate junior engineers rather than just fixing problems yourself.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to translate complex "geek speak" into business terms for clients.
  • Documentation: Fanaticism about creating clear documentation and network diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Compliance frameworks (CSF, HIPAA, GDPR, CMMC).
  • Relevant Industry Certifications: AZ-104/500, MS-100/500, CISSP, CCNA, or PMP/CAPM. Strong consideration given to CISSPs.
  • Experience with ConnectWise Manage or similar PSA/Project Management tools.
  • Experience with MacOS/iOS in enterprise environments.

Culture & Compensation: We invest in the professional careers of our team. We provide a training curriculum and reserve time during working hours for training on foundational and new technologies. We work in a fast-paced industry, but we complement it with a laid-back environment and a strict "no burnout" policy.

Benefits:

  • Financial: Competitive Salary + 401k with Match + Commission structure for referrals.
  • Health: Healthcare (Medical, Dental, Vision).
  • Balance: Flexible scheduling, occasional work from home capabilities, and birthdays off!
  • Growth: Structured training on current and new technologies.
  • Environment: Friendly office culture, lunch breaks are YOUR time, team outings, team SWAG, etc

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
