The Purpose of Your Role

Support our team and member agencies via an Educational Technology and System Engineer role.

Educational Technology Specialist and Systems Engineer: Provide Ed. Tech professional development and guidance to our agency member K12 educational staff via in person training, our agency website and social media platforms. Provide a systems engineer lead or support role as needed by helping to maintain REMC1 and member servers and systems such as Windows Server, Linux, OSX and assist engineering with networking projects.

Demonstrable knowledge of script creation including one or more of the following: Powershell, APIs, SSO, bash, perl, python, php, ruby, etc.

Full Description:

REMC1 provides a variety of services and resources to our member districts, including Internet, network, server, technology consulting, tech support (SupportNet) and Educational Technology professional development guidance and training. This is similar to a commercial MSP (Managed Service Provider), in the educational/municipal/non-profit arena.

The Educational Technology/Systems Engineer shared role is responsible for providing Ed. Tech. guidance, and in person training/professional development to our K12 member educational staff, students and administrators. In some cases the training may be for REMC1 staff. This role will not only assist with implementing but also fully integrating and embedding technology into curriculum to the benefit of teaching and enriching student learning. Educational Technology guidance will be aligned as close as possible with state educational standards. This role will utilize the agency website as well as social media and email mailing lists to disseminate information, tips, upcoming events and training offerings.During any Ed Tech. needs downtime the role will also encompass Systems and Network Engineer duties such as maintaining Windows, Linux, and Vmware systems as well as assisting in Network Engineering tasks as needed (fiber deployments, SANs, NAS, firewall and other core infrastructure).The successful candidate must be someone who enjoys learning new processes and emerging technologies, solving problems, and interacting with people. They must be able to communicate well. They are expected to undertake general tasks which will promote seamless use of the IT infrastructure in the work and educational environment; general maintenance of servers and computer equipment and for resolving identified technical problems; to install, test and repair computer hardware, software, and peripherals; to install, test, and repair voip deployments. This role works closely with the Director of REMC1.

Job Role Requirements

  • Provide engaging and relevant/useful Educational Technology training and guidance to enrich student learning. SOME examples include the following:
  • Google Educational Suite beginner to advanced trainings
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) training. Examples include: Gemini, .com, NotebookLM snd other safe AI resources for education
  • REMC1 educational resources for training and loaning to educators: Maintain collection, Suggest new additions and evaluate current stock, Advertise and educate on current and future resources
  • Training on and championing REMC Association programs and activities/events.
  • Training on BenQ board/interactive displays
  • And more!!
  • Assist in maintaining agency website and communications: Maintain, update and communicate via agency website (Apptegy), Instagram, Facebook, X, and email list communications on REMC/REMC1 events/training, resources and educational tips and tricks.
  • Champion REMC and REMC1 services continuously to enhance awareness and utilization.
  • Participate in REMC Association/RITS (REMC Instructional Technology Specialist) activities and events.
  • Utilizing an agency vehicle: Be ready to drive possibly once a month or more to alternate sites to perform trainings/guidance/meetings or attend conferences and REMC1/REMC Association activities.
  • Work closely with the Director of REMC1
  • Work with helpdesk, office engineers, and on-site REMC staff to resolve issues in member agencies, and to maintain agency networks, servers and services
  • Install, maintain, repair, upgrade and update serves, systems, computers, workstations and other IT equipment hardware and software as directed using best practices, standards, automation and documentation
  • Assist in REMC1 and member networking projects
  • Install, test and document new software
  • Track, prioritize, document, communicate and resolve support requests using the agency ticket system
  • Work with other SupportNet staff to provide reliable technology services and provide expert technical support to assist other REMC employees
  • Accurately document problems, solutions, processes and procedures using the REMC1 knowledge base
  • Keep current on new and emerging technologies, and regularly share knowledge with colleagues/RITS, educational staff
  • Maintain regular communication with REMC staff, district staff, and administration

Personal and Professional Requirements

  • Technical 4-year degree or demonstrated equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Proficient in public speaking.
  • 5+ years of IT or related experience.
  • Training experience.
  • Educational sector experience preferred.

  • Be ready to assist and respond to faculty and staff with IT and Educational Technology related problems and needs.
