Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, PriceStats develops daily economic indicators using online data. We specialize in combining technology and economics to innovate the way economic trends are identified. Our work is grounded on the research conducted by the Billion Prices Project at MIT and Harvard University, and we have an exclusive partnership with State Street Bank through which we distribute our indices to the financial sector.

We are seeking a smart, experienced and talented individual that takes a service-oriented approach to their work and is passionate about software development and process automation. In this role you will work as part of an agile team of software developers and systems engineers responsible for supporting, operating, and enhancing the feature set of our cloud native technology stack.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Software Engineering, the DevOps-focused Software Engineer comes to us with a master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent experience) as well as 3 to 4 years of practical experience working as part of an agile development team in a DevOps environment, including 1 to 2 years of experience building, deploying, and operating systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Successful candidates have demonstrable experience designing, building, deploying and operating complex systems on both Linux and Windows platforms.

Current skills using programming languages/tools in our active code bases are required. These include Python, SQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, JSON, XML, Java, J2EE, Maven, Junit, Bash, and Powershell.

Proficiency in developing and tuning SQL Server databases is key to this role and strong skills are required. Our code pipelines are fully automated all the way to production. Experience using Git for source control and automated build and deployment tools is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency with modern CI/CD/CO software engineering practices.

In addition to developing our own PriceStats products, our team also administers and integrates several other business systems including Elastic Search, Tableau, Office 365, Active Directory, Slack, and Nagios. Proficiency with and experience operating these systems to support business users is required.

Additionally, a successful candidate will be service-focused, a team player, eager to learn new technologies, skilled in using typical software development tools, familiar with automation techniques, and exceptional at helping people find innovative solutions to challenging problems. Location

This is a hybrid position with work-from-home days on Mondays and Fridays, and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The PriceStats office is located in Kendall Square, Cambridge. Employees must be based in the state of Massachusetts.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000/year + bonus (average of 10-20%), commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Development of new services and applications using modern software development languages, tools, and methodologies
  • Automation, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting of cloud-based Linux and Windows Systems
  • Ensure smooth, continuous operation of internal business systems
  • Collaborate with geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams to streamline workflows
  • Support business users with technical issues
  • Identify root causes for technical problems and continuously refine our infrastructure
  • Define and document workflows and operating procedures for complex systems

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (or similar) or equivalent experience
  • 3-4 years of experience writing software using Python, SQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, JSON, XML, Java, J2EE, Maven, Junit, Bash, and PowerShell
  • 3-4 years of experience developing and performance tuning SQL Server databases
  • 1-2 years of experience building and operating systems using Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Proficient with modern software development methodologies and tools (IDEs, source control systems, Jira, Confluence, agile, scrum, CI/CD/CO, etc.)
  • Great communicator and an ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Independent thinker and problem solver with good attention to detail
  • Service-oriented with a passion for quality
