Full Stack Engineer

Pulse

Full-time

Indianapolis, IN

Job description

The Opportunity

We're building a 10X engineering team, and we need someone who gets it. Not 10X because we expect you to work 100-hour weeks (we don't). 10X because we're leveraging AI to move faster, build smarter, and deliver more value than traditional development shops.

This isn't a role where you'll maintain legacy codebases or spend six months on a single feature. You'll jump between projects weekly, sometimes daily. One day you're building a RAG-powered chatbot for a national healthcare organization. The next, you're architecting API integrations between HubSpot, Salesforce, and custom data warehouses. The week after that, you're developing a React-based e-commerce platform with real-time inventory management.

You'll work on nonprofits trying to amplify their impact, mid-market companies scaling their operations, and AI infrastructure startups building the future. You'll get exposure to the full stack, front to back, database to deployment, strategy to execution.

And here's the thing: you'll do it fast. Because we're AI-native. We use Claude Code, Cursor, Lovable, and whatever tools give us the edge. We write production-grade code, not prototype "vibe code." We ship quality, and we ship it quickly.

If you want to join early at a company that's going places, have real influence over the work you do, and make a meaningful impact on the organizations you serve, this is your shot.

What You'll Build

You'll touch every part of our technical delivery:

Frontend Development

  • React and Next.js applications with complex state management
  • TypeScript-based component libraries and design systems
  • Responsive, accessible interfaces that work across devices
  • Integration of third-party APIs and services into user experiences

Backend Development

  • RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints
  • Node.js and Python services with proper error handling and logging
  • Database design and optimization (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Serverless functions and microservices architectures
  • ETL pipelines and data transformation workflows

AI Development

  • RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) systems for knowledge-intensive applications
  • Agentic workflows using Claude, GPT-4, and other LLMs
  • Fine-tuning and prompt engineering for specific use cases
  • API integrations with Anthropic, OpenAI, and emerging AI platforms
  • Custom automation using Clay, HubSpot, and Salesforce with AI enhancement

Infrastructure & DevOps

  • Deployment on AWS, GCP, or Azure depending on client needs
  • CI/CD pipelines with proper testing and staging environments
  • Monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
  • Security best practices and compliance considerations

Client Collaboration

  • Technical discovery sessions to understand requirements
  • Architecture planning and technology recommendations
  • Code reviews and knowledge transfer
  • Documentation that non-technical teams can actually understand

Who You Are

You're mid-career, somewhere between "I've shipped real projects" and "I could lead a team if needed." You've written code that people actually use. You've debugged production issues at 2am. You've refactored a mess into something maintainable. You know what good looks like, and you're still hungry to get better.

Technical Foundation

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue)
  • Solid backend skills in Python, Node.js, or similar with API development experience
  • Comfortable with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar)
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, and modern development workflows
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deployment practices

AI-Native Mindset

  • You believe in building repeatable processes and leveraging AI to complete tasks 5-10x faster than traditional engineering approaches
  • You've put this into practice with tools like Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding tools in real projects
  • You understand how to leverage AI to accelerate development without sacrificing quality
  • You know the difference between AI-assisted code and production-ready code
  • You're excited about tools like Lovable for rapid prototyping but know when to write custom solutions
  • You've worked with LLM APIs (Claude, Gemini 3) or built AI-powered features

Versatility & Speed

  • You can context-switch between projects without losing momentum
  • You're comfortable learning new technologies and frameworks as projects demand
  • You're comfortable being customer-facing, joining client meetings, and explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • You ask great questions during discovery and push back when requirements don't make sense
  • You write code that others can understand and maintain
  • You ship iteratively rather than waiting for perfection

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, Not Required)

  • Experience with WordPress/WooCommerce for e-commerce projects
  • Knowledge of data pipeline tools (Snowflake, BigQuery, ETL frameworks)
  • Experience with Webflow, Framer, or other no-code/low-code platforms
  • Previous agency or consultancy experience working with multiple clients

Our Core Values

These aren't just words on a wall. They're how we operate every day.

- Unwavering Integrity: We do what we say we'll do. When we commit to a deadline, we hit it. When we make a mistake, we own it. Our clients trust us with their most important initiatives because we've earned that trust through consistency and honesty. We hate "little white lies" with a passion.

- Trailblazing Creativity: We don't follow the pack. We find better ways to solve problems, whether that's using AI to automate tedious workflows or architecting systems that others said couldn't be done. We question assumptions and push boundaries, but always in service of real outcomes.

- Speed as Our Superpower: We move fast without breaking things. We leverage AI, automation, and smart processes to deliver in weeks what others take months to build. Speed isn't about cutting corners, it's about eliminating waste and focusing on what matters.

What We Offer

Compensation

  • $80,000-$125,000 annual salary based on experience
  • Annual bonus opportunities based on performance
  • Opportunity to grow with a fast-scaling company
  • Clear path into engineering leadership

Work Environment

  • In-office 5 days per week in downtown Indianapolis
  • Small, collaborative team where your voice matters
  • Direct access to leadership (you'll report to our COO)
  • Exposure to strategic conversations, not just implementation work

Professional Growth

  • Work across multiple industries and problem domains
  • Build a diverse portfolio of production systems
  • Learn from real client challenges with real stakes
  • Potential to shape the engineering culture and team as we grow
  • Early employee at a company positioned for significant expansion

Project Variety

  • No two weeks are the same
  • Balance of greenfield development and existing system enhancement
  • Mix of technical challenges, from data engineering to user experience
  • Opportunity to influence technology decisions and architecture

The Reality Check

This role isn't for everyone. Here's what you should know:

  • You'll be in the office. We believe in-person collaboration drives better outcomes, especially for a young engineering team. If you need remote work, this isn't the right fit.
  • You'll wear multiple hats. Some days you're an architect, some days you're a developer, some days you're explaining technical concepts to non-technical clients. Versatility is required.
  • Projects move fast. We operate on agency timelines, not enterprise IT timelines. You need to be comfortable with rapid iteration and changing priorities.
  • We're still building. We're not a 500-person company with established processes for everything. You'll help define how we work as much as you'll follow existing patterns.
  • Midwest location matters. This role is in Indianapolis, and you need to either live here or be willing to relocate. We're building something special in Indiana, and we need people committed to being here.
  • Pulse needs to be your main thing. We're not looking for someone juggling multiple roles or side hustles. We believe people who split their focus can't do any one thing well. In return, we compensate with competitive salary and bonus opportunities to reward those who commit fully and deliver results.

How to Apply

Apply through the link on Gusto. In your application, we want to see:

  • Live projects you've built in the past
  • A resume and cover letter that display your problem-solving and technical decision-making skills
  • The different technologies and frameworks you work with
  • How you are a 10x AI developer
  • How you differentiate yourself from developers that are behind on adopting AI skills

We review applications on a rolling basis and are hoping to fill this role by January 2026. Early applicants will be prioritized.
