Position Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) plays a vital role in supporting the residents of HSC Assisted Living by providing compassionate, respectful, and dependable non-medical care. Under the supervision of the Assisted Living Manager and in accordance with state guidelines, RAs assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), provide companionship, ensure resident safety, and support the overall well-being of our residents. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about elder care and enjoy working in a team-focused, mission-driven environment.
**This is not an onsite/line-in position and we do not provide housing or cover relocation expenses. We are not in a position to provide sponsorship for international candidates at this time.**
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with ADLs, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation
- Provide support with meals, including serving, assisting with feeding, and meal cleanup
- Perform regular wellness checks and document observations regarding resident health and behavior
- Assist residents with mobility and transfers using appropriate techniques and equipment (training provided)
- Support residents in participating in daily routines and recreational activities
- Maintain resident dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times
- Respond promptly and compassionately to resident needs and call lights
- Perform light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, linen changes, and room tidying
- Communicate effectively with staff, residents, and family members regarding resident care
- Follow all health, safety, and infection control procedures as outlined by HSC and the State of Alaska
- Participate in required staff training and in-service education
- Report any incidents, changes in condition, or safety concerns to the Assisted Living Manager or nurse on duty
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience working with seniors or in a caregiving role preferred
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment screening
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team
- Reliable and punctual with good time management skills
- Must be physically able to lift, move, and support up to 50 pounds and perform duties requiring standing, bending, and walking for extended periods
- Willingness to obtain training in first aid/CPR and HSC-provided caregiving education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in assisted living, long-term care, or similar environment
- Familiarity with dementia and memory care support
- CPR/First Aid certification (can be provided by HSC upon hire)
Work Environment:
The Resident Assistant works in a residential care setting with seniors who may have a range of physical and cognitive abilities. The environment is fast-paced, and the RA must be prepared to respond to both routine and urgent resident needs in a calm, respectful manner.
