Position Summary:

The DevOps Specialist is responsible for understanding and identifying opportunities for process improvements across the development lifecycle, with a particular emphasis on enhancing efficiency, automation, and collaboration within the infrastructure. The DevOps Specialist will play a key role in the IU5's development operations, ensuring that the infrastructure supports the continuous delivery of high-quality software.

Benefits

Salary: $55,000 (not negotiable)

260 Day position

PTO: 20 vacation days, 13 sick days, 5 personal days, 2 Mental Health days

Medical benefits are available your first date of employment with a monthly premium share of only $75

Requires a minimum contribution of 8% by the employee to the PSERS retirement system

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in IT or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience with back-end technologies (.NET, C#, SQL)
  • Proficiency in database administration (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related discipline
  • 1-2 years of experience in a DevOps or system support role
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Strong understanding of networking, system administration, and security best practices


Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud services management (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash)


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in development and programming, creating and maintaining scripts, tools, and pipelines that support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Design, develop, and maintain the infrastructure required for a reliable and scalable development environment, including servers, databases, and cloud resources.
  • Act as a liaison between development and the operations teams to ensure seamless communication and collaboration, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility.
  • Ensure system security by applying best practices in access control, encryption, and vulnerability management.
  • Continuously improve system reliability and performance through monitoring and automation.
  • Help maintain and update documentation ensuring that support procedures and information are current.
  • Utilize the helpdesk system to log, manage, and track client support requests, assisting in analyzing common issues to suggest service improvements.
  • Focus on customer service to meet the needs of IU5 employees and the organization.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain and improve technical skill set through trainings, classes, journals, and web research.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to explain complex instructions in an easily understandable fashion to technical and non-technical clients.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws that impact the organization.
  • Maintain a customer-first perspective and focus on customer service to meet the IT needs of IU5 employees and IU5 customers.
  • Make decisions consistent with the IU Mission and Core Values.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and positive relationships within the IU5 and external organizations.


Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. Incumbent must be able to sit at desk for extended periods of time. This role routinely uses standard office equipment with a vast majority of the time utilizing computers to complete daily tasks. Due to travel outside of the home office, candidates are required to have a vehicle and valid driver's license to attend job related duties, meetings, seminars, and trainings.
