Job Overview
SSI Systems, an innovative supplier of warehouse automation solutions, is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Sales Application Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the technical bridge between our sales team, engineering group, and customers. You will be responsible for developing customized material handling automation system solutions, preparing proposals, and supporting the sales process from concept through order acquisition.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial automation, material handling systems (conveyors, AS/RS, robotics, AGVs, packaging automation, etc.), and the ability to translate customer needs into practical, cost-effective, and competitive solutions.
Location: Easton, PA or Grand Rapids, MI
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with team to understand customer requirements and project objectives.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and discovery meetings to gather application data.
- Present proposed system solutions to customers, demonstrating technical and business value.
- Support the sales process by acting as the technical expert during customer interactions.
- Analyze material flow, operational data, and customer requirements to develop system concepts.
- Design layouts, process flows, and equipment specifications for automated systems (conveyors, sortation, robotics, shuttle systems, AS/RS, pallet handling, etc.).
- Create 2D/3D concept drawings, system simulations, and throughput analyses.
- Work with internal engineering teams and supplier partners to validate solutions and ensure feasibility.
- Prepare detailed proposals including scope of supply, technical descriptions, budgets, and schedules.
- Develop cost estimates by sourcing vendor quotes, calculating labor requirements, and identifying project risks.
- Collaborate with project management and engineering to ensure proposals are accurate and executable.
- Support RFP/RFQ responses and lead technical writing for proposals.
- Act as liaison between Sales, Engineering, and Operations to ensure smooth project handoff.
- Support product development and innovation initiatives by relaying customer feedback and market trends.
- Maintain knowledge of competitive technologies and industry best practices.
What We Are Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in applications engineering, solution development, or sales engineering in automation, material handling, or industrial equipment.
- Experience with warehouse automation, robotics, conveyors, or distribution center systems strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD tools; experience with simulation software (e.g., Demo3D, FlexSim) is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data, model throughput, and size equipment.
- Familiarity with PLCs, robotics, and warehouse management/controls systems is a plus.

- Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and executive-level audiences.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
