Job description
The Systems Administrator will work with the Sr. Systems Administrator to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions of the JRTC. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software and associated operating systems. Effective communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to help identify, communicate and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The System Administrator will work fluidly across the infrastructure elements of security, storage, and virtualization to deliver new availability, capacity, services, and safeguards.
This mid-level position involves substantial responsibility for the overall health, operations and security of all computers and servers on the JRTC systems. The Systems Administrator will work closely with all network administrators and systems administrators to give those positions assistance in fulfilling their respective responsibilities to keep all computer operations functioning JRTC-wide, in addition to providing project leadership and management support to provide a high level of service to JRTC departments and divisions. It is the expectation that this position will be able to work with the Sr. Systems Administrator to plan for and solve the most complex server, virtualization or storage issues that may face the JRTC.
Requirements:
· Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret security clearance.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain Fort Polk driving privileges.
· Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, if required.
· During rotations, may be called out and required to assist outside of normal working hours.
· Must be able to tolerate work in the extreme Louisiana heat and work in various environmental conditions and terrains.
· Must be able to travel to training areas (on post or just outside of Ft. Polk) by helicopter, 4x4 vehicles, or tactical vehicles.
· Must be able to communicate via two-way radio.
Required Certifications:
· Must have a CompTIA Security+ CE or other IAT level II certification to start.
· Must obtain a computing environment certification within 6 months of the start date.
(ex: CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Cloud Essentials, Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, LPIC-1 or LFCS).
Skills:
The ideal candidate should have 3+ years of experience in System Administration and experience with the following:
· Windows Server 2012/2008/2003
· Windows 7
· Red Hat Enterprise Linux/Solaris
· VMware or Hyper-V
· SolarWinds
· Scripting
· Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Power Shell
· DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
· NATO phonetic alphabet
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Support the JRTC IS and report to the CNC lead /Senior Systems Administrator.
· Manage, install, and configure software and hardware.
· Create user accounts.
· Monitor performance and maintain systems according to SOPs.
· Troubleshoot issues and outages.
· Assist PDSS with the upgrade of systems, installation of new systems, and new software releases.
· Maintain overall responsibility for the availability and integrity of physical and virtual infrastructure.
· Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
· Continuously analyze system data to identify lag time or inconsistencies with the devices.
· Identify trend deficiencies in the system to present possible solutions to the customer.
· Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
· Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
· Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
· Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of critical computer resources.
· Perform troubleshooting as required and lead problem solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and /or departments / divisions.
· Provide recommendations for improving the network environment and server infrastructure.
· Provide end user support.
· System maintenance, upgrades, imaging, and patching.
· Active Directory account creation.
· Ability to effectively interact via verbal and written communications with stakeholders.
· And other duties as assigned.
