Summary

The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for overseeing the management, performance, and security of multiple database technologies, including Sybase IQ/ASE, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server. This role requires a hands-on approach to developing task automation using CI/CD pipelines for routine DBA tasks, as well as the ability to work with customers and guide other DBAs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Oracle and either MS SQL server or Sybase, agile methodologies and a thorough understanding of Jira, both for Kanban and Scrum boards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, testing, implementation, maintenance and administration of database systems across various technologies, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Develop and implement task automation strategies using CI/CD pipelines to streamline routine DBA tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage and enhance the Oracle database servers including clustered servers while adhering to established SLAs for problem resolution.
  • Define and perform tasks relating to disaster recovery.
  • Collaborate with application and data teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
  • Utilize Jira to manage project workflows, ensuring effective tracking and reporting of database-related tasks within both Kanban and Scrum frameworks.
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate defect resolution to maintain high availability and reliability of database systems.
  • Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data integrity and security across all database environments.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve database management practices.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • At least one industry standard certification in a database discipline.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience as a senior system DBA with Oracle technologies including Oracle RDMBS, RAC, Dataguard, Goldengate
  • 5+ years of experience supporting a secondary database technology such as MSSQL Server, MySQL or Sybase, with proven ability to work substantially independently
  • 3+ years of experience in developing task automation using CI/CD tools and pipelines for routine DBA tasks.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with agile methodologies, including proficiency in using Jira for project management.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in performance tuning of database systems.
  • Ability to tune/optimize SQL statements and ensure all database parameters/settings are optimally configured for performance.

Desired Skills:

  • Oracle 12c/19c certification is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services, particularly AWS RDS, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with database monitoring and management tools, such as SolarWinds or Redgate.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and database management tasks.
  • Experience with database version control tools and practices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $145,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
