Job description
This Supervisory Data Scientist position is with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Human Resources Management (HRM), Planning, Program Analysis, and Evaluation Directorate, People Analytics Division, located in Washington, DC.
CBP is expecting to fill two positions where individuals selected will serve as expert analysts and advisors to senior management, with a primary function of providing objectively based information derived from the use of advanced scientific, mathematical, and statistical work to support data-driven decision making across Human Resources Management.
This opportunity is open to the public: U.S. citizens, nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S., and to individuals who are Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) eligibles because of recent federal civil service job elimination.

Qualifications
Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet basic education and experience requirements below.
A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
You qualify for this position if you meet the Basic Requirement listed above AND possess one year of Specialized Experience described below as a Selective Placement Factor.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Overseeing a broad range of operations research analyses assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, and innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and new technologies.

To further assist that you understand this opportunity, following are the competencies you will need to have to perform this job successfully:
Ability to lead agency-wide analytic, modeling, and simulation initiatives, including: developing research proposals and feedback programs; designing analytical products to better inform and support HRM and CBP decision-making processes; monitoring projects and reporting regularly on progress; developing feedback/research materials based on scientific best practices; supervising project execution; collaborating with statisticians to develop data analysis plans for analytic, modeling, and simulation efforts; and interpreting and summarizing insights to stakeholders.

Salary and Benefits
This position starts at a salary of $142,488 (GS-14, Step 1) with a top salary level of $185,234 (GS-14 Step 10).
