About This Role

The Junior Systems Architect plays a key supporting role in the design, documentation, and delivery of technical solutions for AppTier’s clients. Working closely with the Senior Systems Architect, this position assists with requirements clarification, solution design activities, system configuration support, architecture documentation, and ensuring technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design Support

  • Assist in gathering and documenting business, functional, and technical requirements.
  • Support the Senior Architect in preparing high-level and detailed architecture documents (e.g., integration diagrams, component diagrams, data flows).
  • Help evaluate solution options, identify technical gaps, and prepare comparison summaries.

Implementation Support

  • Participate in configuration activities across applications, integrations, and supporting services.
  • Perform environment checks, basic system troubleshooting, and log review during build and testing phases.
  • Validate that implemented components match design specifications and escalate discrepancies.
  • Assist with installation, upgrades, and patching activities as assigned.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Support creation of test cases for integration testing and UAT.
  • Participate in test execution to validate system functionality and capture defects.
  • Document outcomes and partner with engineering teams to resolve issues.

Documentation & Standards

  • Prepare and maintain technical artifacts including design documents, runbooks, configuration guides, and deployment notes.
  • Ensure all solution components are captured accurately for handoff to support or operations teams.
  • Maintain version control and consistency across all architecture materials.

Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in client workshops to capture technical details, dependencies, and open questions.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and QA to ensure project alignment with architectural direction.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and provide timely updates and escalations.

Professional Development

  • Build foundational skills in systems architecture, cloud services, integration patterns, and enterprise content management.
  • Learn content management concepts such as metadata models, permissions, workflows, and integration frameworks.
  • Stay current on industry standards, architectural methodologies, and emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in IT (implementation consulting, systems engineering, application support, DevOps, or similar).
  • Familiarity with core IT skills including:
  • Operating systems (Windows and/or Linux)
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing)
  • Basic database knowledge (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and SQL scripting
  • Web applications, APIs, and system integrations
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in IT consulting, professional services, or project-based environments.
  • Exposure to any major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with enterprise content management or document management systems (OpenText preferred but not required).
  • Experience with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Understanding authentication, authorization, SSO, and identity providers.
  • Technical certifications are a plus.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
