Essential Job FunctionsResponsibilities:

Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis on incidents involving all types of vessels and mechanical equipment within the maritime industries including:
- Boatlifts
- Fire Suppression Systems
- Human Factors (ergonomics, fatigue, or similar)
- Liquid and Gas Fuel Systems and Related Fires/Explosions
- General MachineryPiping Systems
- Doors/gates
- Seaworthiness
- Lifesaving Systems
- Walkway safety including evaluation for slip resistance (tribometry)
- Vessel stability, sinking, damagehull integrity
- Vessel Control Systems (steering, stabilizers, thrusters, etc.)
- Vessel Propulsion Systems
- Vessel System Automation
- Vessel Boarding apparatus and gangways
- Conduct recreational and commercial vessel accident reconstruction and mechanical/electrical failure analysis
- Knowledgeable in US and International Vessel Safety and Pollution Prevention Standards (i.e. CFR, MARPOL, SOLAS)
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients
- Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings
- Responsible for retention and development of client relations
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of B.S. in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field
- Minimum of ten years of maritime related engineering experience
- P.E. Registration or ability to obtain quickly
- Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
- Strong writing skills
- U.S.C.G Chief Engineer License for Steam, Gas Turbine and Motor Vessels Any Horsepower a plus
- U.S.C.G. Marine Safety Inspection and/or Investigation qualifications a plus
- Failure analysis experience a plus
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
- Ability to maneuver in and around vessels and other mechanical equipment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to drive/travel to site locations in all conditions
- Ability to travel by airline
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
