Supports the department of Information Technology by ensuring smooth network and system administration while maintaining security; ensuring effective on-premises and cloud server administration; and effectively managing all hardware and software systems to ensure optimal performance.
Responsibilities
Ensures smooth network and system administration and security by:
- Maintaining, administering and upgrading all the College’s cabling and fiber infrastructure, working with vendors to resolve issues;
- Providing the security of the network through application best practices in Information Security;
- Managing, monitoring, maintaining infrastructure via RMM platform;
- Acting as primary contact with network vendors, including hardware, software, and service providers;
- Maintaining and working out of the central management system while maintaining accurate documentation of systems, software and other functions;
- Monitoring and recommending changes and upgrades to all parts of the network as needed to ensure smooth and secure network operation.
Ensures effective on-premise and cloud server administration by:
- Maintaining, installing, and upgrading all elements of the College’s server infrastructure including on-premises and cloud systems and ensuring their interoperability;
- Assistance with escalated tickets from helpdesk;
- Coordinating the installation, management, and administration of various server operating systems including Windows 2016+, Linux/Unix, and MacOS. Coordinate and perform all OS updates and patches, troubleshooting and repair via RMM platform;
- Coordinating the setup, performance, and maintenance backups on all servers; restore as necessary;
- Coordinating the setup and management of a hyper-converged server infrastructure;
- Coordinating the installation, management, and administration of SQL application specific databases;
- Performing advanced server configuration for new application installations;
- Performing specific tasks using Microsoft Terminal Services in support of thin client devices.
Effectively manages all hardware and software systems to ensure optimal performance by:
- Managing licensing compliance for server applications and hardware support contracts;
- Administering Office 365 administrative functions;
- Administering Google Workspace administrative console is needed to meet organizational goals;
- Administering Google Cloud Platform for interoperability with other systems, DNS hosting, and virtual assets;
- Managing and direct networking personnel working with the hyper-converged server infrastructure.
Skills
- Possess a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment
- Demonstrated experience with virtualization technologies such as ESXi, Hyper-V, etc.
- Expert experience with Windows Server and Active Directory including Local and Group Policy, Security hardening and Remediation
- Experience managing application authentication and access with an IAM platform; SAML SSO preferred
- Excellent communication skills, ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff and students using a variety of computer platforms who have a wide range of technology familiarity
- Demonstrated organization and time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
- Administration and Management of VoIP systems a plus.
- Systems and network security knowledge, including experience with firewalls, security vulnerability assessment and remediation and related technologies and processes.
- Experience with shared storage and distributed file systems
- Proven ability to solve problems, negotiate and develop creative solutions to meet business and employee needs
- Proven experience working with cloud and local backup and recovery systems.
- Familiarity with common desktop computer applications and specialized desktop software used for in-depth troubleshooting
- Expertise with server level software: operating systems such Linux, Windows 2016+, and some web site experience.
- Skill in email protocols as it applies to cloud-based systems such as Google Workspace and Office 365
- Experience and knowledge of routing, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and other networking protocols
- Experience with security protocols and security awareness as it pertains to firewall policies and antivirus protection management
- Extensive experience with PowerShell and/or other enterprise operational scripting toolkits
- Knowledge and experience with LAN device operating systems such as UI, Ruckus, and Fortinet
