POSITION SUMMARY
NITROcrete, a Cryogenic Industrial Solutions company, is looking for an Automation & Controls Engineer to join our team out of our Fort Collins, CO facility to support, modernize, and document our network of automated concrete cooling systems deployed across North America. NITROcrete provides innovative concrete temperature control technology to the ready-mix concrete industry. The Automation & Controls Engineer role blends controls engineering, field troubleshooting, and systems integration, spanning PLC/HMI programming, cloud data pipelines, and real-world site commissioning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Program, test, and maintain PLC and HMI systems (primarily IDEC and FC6A platform).
- Modify and document ladder logic, I/O mapping, and communication protocols for new and legacy systems.
- Perform electrical wiring on relays and sensors during system builds and monitoring.
- Calibrate, verify, improve and troubleshoot system (valves, pressure sensors, etc.)
- Manage data communication across MQTT, VPN, AWS Lambda and InfluxDB.
- Support networking configurations: VPNs, VPCs, IPsec tunnels, and Verizon static IPs.
- Work with partners to ensure up time of Akamai VPN tunnels and Digi cellular modems.
- Contribute to system telemetry reliability, ensuring data is visible in NITROvision dashboards.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for customer support related to automation, controls, and performance.
- Monitor site data and alarms to proactively identify system issues and coordinate corrective actions.
- Manage and resolve Jira service tickets, ensuring timely communication, documentation, etc.
- Troubleshoot system behavior remotely through PLC logic, or sensor diagnostics.
- Provide technical guidance to field technicians and customer contacts.
- Travel to customer sites occasionally for complex troubleshooting and/or commissioning.
- Develop and maintain system wiring diagrams, control logic flowcharts, and configuration records.
- Contribute to technical manuals, commissioning procedures, and training materials.
- Identify opportunities for new automation, standardization, and risk reduction.
- Support ongoing improvements to system reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
- 2+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or field systems commissioning.
- Proficiency with PLC programming (IDEC preferred)
- Strong knowledge of wiring, I/O systems, and field-level troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with AWS services, MQTT, Lambda functions, and InfluxDB data flow (preferred).
- Understanding of VPN/VPC/IPsec fundamentals, preferably in an industrial environment (preferred).
- Experience working with valves, relays, solenoids, and process sensors.
- Comfortable with hands-on work in field environments (industrial plants).
- Willingness to travel up to ~50% (typically less), especially during summer months.
Preferred Experience
- IDEC WindLDR or Automation Organizer software.
- Cellular networking (Verizon static IPs, Digi gateways, Akamai, VPN, etc.).
- Jira Cloud or similar ticketing workflows.
- Familiarity with cryogenic, concrete batching, or temperature-control systems is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $105K to $120K Annually
