Position Overview: NIRA, Inc., a rapidly expanding women-owned small business headquartered in Washington, DC, is seeking a Cloud Solutions Architect to join our growing Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) support team. In this role, you will work closely with government project managers and engineers to support transformational technology projects at the FAA. You will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of cutting-edge solutions, leveraging cloud-based technologies to modernize the way the FAA manages and shares information with airlines and the aviation community. Joint the NIRA team and be part of a mission that not only advances agency technology but also ensures the safety and efficiency of aviation on a global scale.
This is a full-time, hybrid position – team members should expect to work at least two days per week in either the client office or NIRA HQ (both in Washington, DC). In-person days and times may be flexible.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing robust, secure cloud-based solutions with a focus on scalability, reliability, and interoperability.
- Architecting and overseeing containerized environments using container development and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Guiding teams in implementing a microservices architecture to increase operational agility, streamline deployment, and optimize resource use.
- Engaging with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and validate technical requirements, ensuring that proposed solutions align with both business objectives and technical feasibility.
- Leading technical discussions, provide guidance on cloud-native architecture patterns, and establish best practices for containerization, microservices, and cloud deployment.
- Collaborating with enterprise IT and Cloud teams to develop CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment and scaling, enhancing efficiency in the software development lifecycle.
- Supporting FAA Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities, contributing to critical governance decisions that impact and shape the future systems enhancements.
Basic position requirements:
- BS in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Science, Engineering or a related technical subject
- 10+ years of professional experience in cloud architecture, with demonstrated expertise in containerization and microservices
- Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Experience with large-scale system integrations
- Extensive experience in requirements gathering and translating business needs into technical specifications
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code technologies
- Solid understanding of infrastructure and cloud security best practices
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving capabilities
- Collaborative and able to work cross-functionally to meet business and technical objectives
Additional desired experience/qualifications:
- Experience supporting major federal acquisition programs, particularly with the FAA
- Experience designing and implementing cloud-based network architectures across multiple cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Proficiency in virtual networks, subnets, VPNs, and hybrid cloud connectivity solutions, with a deep understanding of load balancing, traffic management, and cross-region networking
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing secure cloud network designs
- Experience in integrating network architectures and automating network provisioning to support scalable, resilient cloud solutions
