Job description

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Systems & Infrastructure Management

  • Manage and administer all server operating systems and their associated software.
  • Work with the Network Engineer to manage communication and connectivity solutions, including local area networks (LAN), company website, intranet, and internet applications.
  • Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers, multiple databases, and data transfers.
  • Allocate, distribute, and monitor server storage space.
  • Assess the need for system reconfigurations (minor or major) and implement changes as necessary.
  • Perform server asset management, including maintaining inventories, technical documentation, and component specifications.
  • Perform and verify system backups.
  • Monitor, test, and analyze server software performance; generate statistics and reports as needed.

Technical Support, Hardware, & Compliance

  • Install, configure, and maintain printer systems, RF scanners, thermal printers, and other peripheral hardware.
  • Provide on-call technical support as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required

  • Education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows Server, UNIX, Linux, and Novell.
  • Experience with backup software packages.
  • Technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of local area network (LAN) administration.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of data management systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documentation and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Desired

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
  • Professional experience with project management.
  • Experience with Veritas NetBackup, SUSE Linux, Solaris, OES, and Domino.

Working Conditions:

  • On-call availability.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Ability to lift and transport moderately heavy objects (45–50 lbs), such as computers, peripherals, and batteries.
