Hours are: Day Shift- 7:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m./ 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Mid Shift- 2:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.
NOC or Overnights- 10:00 p.m.- 8:00 a.m. (awake overnights)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Direct Support Staff
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Programs & Services
Reports To: Supervisor

Position Summary: The Direct Support Staff is responsible for providing comprehensive personal care, guidance, and support to Organizational male and female clients respective to client needs. This position is also responsible for promoting client independence through appropriate role modeling, administering client programs & goals, and ensuring the clients personal needs are satisfied in a safe manner.
Essential Duties:
Employees maybe subjected to physical aggression such as: hitting, kicking, punching, biting and pushing, also verbal aggression.
All staff are required to work every other weekend.
- Follows and implements clients plan of care, goals, programs, or other applicable and required plans accurately and promptly as scheduled or required.
- Promptly attends all scheduled and required shifts, trainings, meetings and events.
- Documents, charts and tracks client information as required in applicable and respective areas, to include, but not limited to communication notebook, medication tracking, progress notes and health progress notes.
- Follows and administers medication to clients according to medication administration guidelines, procedures and physician orders.
- Prepares and assists clients in preparing and consuming meals, snacks and beverages according to menu, special diets or as instructed.
- Cleans and completes chores according to expected standards and promptly reports any maintenance-related issues to Supervisor.
- Assist other employees, including Supervisor as needed or requested.
- Follows applicable and behavioral redirection techniques, programs, and systems, such as Behavior Management Programs and Therapeutic Interventions.
- Conducts, fire, storm, and other required drills according to procedures as scheduled.
- Plans and or engages in client activities within the department, site, or the community while completing other job responsibilities that may apply.
- Assists male and female clients with personal cares, which may include and not limited to toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, and other daily living requirements.
- Drives organizational vehicles to transport clients to and from events, appointments, and other activities and abide by organizational driving policies, procedures, and state driving laws.
- Maintains supervision of clients in accordance with client supervision requirements.
- Maintains a safe organizational environment by following safety guidelines, immediately reporting safety or potentially hazardous or unsafe conditions.
- Assists clients with money transactions and management according to organizational client fund guidelines.
- Provides physical assistance to clients, including but not limited to sitting down, standing up, walking, transferring, or other mobility demands.
- Maintains consistency and follows all client care, activities and responsibilities.
- Immediately responds and addresses emergency situations in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and best practices.
- Follows all organizational policies, procedures, site/department program & supervisorial guidelines and seeks clarification when needed.
- Promotes client independence by providing safe and healthy direction, answering questions, and acting as an appropriate role model in various situations.
Other Duties:
- Participation in organizational events and activities.
- Professionally represents the organization and department or site to current employees, volunteers, vendors and community.
- Completes other job responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
- Read, write and speak English fluently.
- Maintain a class D driver’s license and comply with Focused Living insurance guidelines.
- Valid CPR, First-Aid and Medication Administration Certifications, or ability to obtain them within 90 days of employment.
Physical Demands:
The task of this position generally requires duties to be performed by:
- Regularly lift up to 20 lbs and occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs to waist height unaccompanied.
- Alternate sitting and standing during the duration of your shift.
- Frequently required to walk, stand bend and twist.
- Frequently apply use of hands and fingers to grasp, feel objects and transfer small items from one hand to another. Fine manipulation and motor skills.
- Wil use close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Safety and Ergonomic Requirements:
- Must practice safe work at all times, report any unsafe conditions immediately.
- Attend and participate in all safety meetings.
- Participate in ergonomic stretched and follow ergonomic requirements of the position.
- Follow all personal dress requirements according to established dress code.
Qualification Requirements:
- Maintains a class D driver’s license. Not required.
- Reads, speaks and understands English fluently.
- Medication Administration Certifications, or ability to obtain them within 90 days of employment.
- General meal preparation, able to understand directions, ingredients, measuring and follow a recipe.
- Solid communication skills and techniques for working with and directing people with disabilities and challenges.
