Job description
The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing critical network and server infrastructure at our ISP. This role involves hands-on administration of DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, LibreNMS monitoring, Netbrain, Proxmox virtualization, Ansible and other related systems along with various scripting tasks for network automation and reporting. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical expertise in Linux-based environments and networking protocols, capable of handling day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and contributing to system improvements.
Pay Range: $60,000- $85,000 Annualized (Depending on experience)
Location: Remote position preferably based out of Centennial, CO or Phoenix, AZ
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and maintain DNS servers to ensure accurate domain resolution and high availability for customers and internal services.
- Manage DHCP services, including IP address allocation, lease management, and integration with network devices.
- Oversee FreeRADIUS and Cisco ISE authentication systems for secure access control, including user authentication, authorization, and accounting for network resources.
- Monitor network performance and infrastructure health using LibreNMS, including setting up alerts, dashboards, database maintenance, and reporting on metrics like bandwidth usage and device status.
- Handle Proxmox virtualization environment, including VM deployment, cluster management, backups, and resource optimization.
- Perform routine maintenance, updates, and patches on servers and network systems to minimize downtime.
- Develop scripts in Python and Ansible for simple network automation tasks and reporting
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to network connectivity, server performance, and system integrations.
- Collaborate with network engineers and support teams on infrastructure projects, such as scaling services or implementing new tools.
- Document procedures, configurations, and incident resolutions to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base.
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support and emergency response.
- Other associated duties as assigned, including assisting with firewall configurations, VPN setups, or basic scripting for automation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience in systems administration, preferably in an ISP or telecommunications environment.
- Proven hands-on experience with:
o DNS (e.g., Efficient IP, BIND or similar).
o DHCP (e.g., Efficient IP, ISC DHCP or Kea).
o RADIUS/TACACS (e.g., FreeRADIUS, Cisco ISE, Aruba ClearPass).
o Network monitoring tools like LibreNMS or similar (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios).
o Virtualization platforms such as Proxmox VE.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS) and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and firewalls.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Virtualization platforms such as Proxmox VE.
- Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker)
- Knowledge of ISP-specific tools like BGP routing or fiber optic network management.
