Job description
The IAM National Benefits Funds ("the Funds") administers multiemployer health and pension benefits for participants, retirees, and beneficiaries nationwide. As the fifth largest Taft-Hartley fund office, the Funds serve around 100,000 retirees and beneficiaries, manage a $15 billion pension portfolio, and operate across more than 1,650 employer locations. The Funds are modernizing their technology stack and enterprise platforms, to deliver exceptional service to its participants and contributing employers.
We are seeking an executive‑level Director of Information Technology to lead day‑to‑day IT operations while driving large, mission‑critical implementations over the next several years. The Director reports to the Executive Director and serves on the Executive Leadership Team.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure reliability, security, and scalability across enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud, applications, service desk, data, and integrations.
- Develop, manage, and optimize IT operating and capital budgets; ensure cost‑effective technology investments and financial stewardship.
- Lead IT strategic planning, align technology initiatives with organizational goals, advise the executive team, and translate strategy into actionable roadmaps.
- Lead delivery of major implementations and upgrades, using strong program and change management.
- Set and manage IT operating and capital budgets; optimize licensing and vendor value.
- Provide strategic oversight of change and issue management for the benefits and pension systems, partnering with third-party developers to ensure solutions are aligned, appropriately scoped, and effectively communicated across stakeholders.
- Execute comprehensive vendor management by developing and maintaining strategic relationships, conducting rigorous performance evaluations, managing contractual expectations, and proactively mitigating risks associated with system implementations and ongoing support.
- Establish cybersecurity and compliance programs aligned with NIST CSF, DOL Cybersecurity Best Practices, and HIPAA/HITECH; serve as or support the HIPAA Security Official.
- Advance data governance, analytics, and reporting to support fiduciary oversight and participant service.
- Develop and mentor a high‑performing IT team and service culture; manage vendors and third‑party risk.
- Maintain DR/BCP and incident response readiness; run tabletop tests and report metrics.
- Oversee RingCentral and enterprise network/telephony; drive lifecycle management and standards.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership with 5–7+ years leading managers/teams.
- Proven experience in IT budget management and strategic planning at the executive level.
- Experience in a multiemployer/Taft‑Hartley or similarly complex, highly regulated environment strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with benefits administration platforms, and integrations (EDI, imaging/workflow, portals, banking/ACH).
- Depth in Microsoft technologies (Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, SQL Server), identity and access management, and enterprise networking/telephony (RingCentral or similar).
- Proven program/project management and vendor management; PMP/PMI‑ACP, ITIL, CISSP/CISM or comparable credentials a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH, DOL Cybersecurity Best Practices, data privacy, and information security frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF).
