Universal Compressed Air

Full-time

Center Valley, PA

Job description

Title: Systems Administrator

Pay Rate: $80K-90K

Location: Hillsboro, OR (VTM and Novus locations)

Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full-time, On-site

Reports To: IT Manager

About the Role

VTM Group, a high-tech firm in the Hillsboro area, seeks a Systems Administrator to join our Corporate Information Technology (IT) group. A Systems Administrator owns and manages our server infrastructure, virtualization environment, and cloud resources. This is a hands-on technical role with significant autonomy—you will be responsible for keeping our systems running, planning infrastructure improvements, and executing projects from conception through completion. This person will report directly to the IT Manager.

This is not an entry-level role. Candidates must have relevant on-the-job experience to be qualified. We're looking for someone who can take ownership of our infrastructure environment, make technical decisions confidently, and drive projects forward independently.

Job Responsibilities

A Systems Administrator is the primary owner of our IT infrastructure. You will have authority over and accountability for the health, security, and evolution of our systems. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Infrastructure Ownership

  • Own and manage Windows Server environment (2016/2019/2022)
  • Administer and maintain Active Directory including domain controllers, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
  • Manage VMware vSphere environment—provision VMs, allocate resources, maintain hosts
  • Plan and execute server deployments, migrations, and decommissioning
  • Administer Veeam backup and recovery; ensure business continuity
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance; proactively address issues

Cloud & Hybrid Environment

  • Manage Azure resources and hybrid AD/Entra ID integration
  • Plan and execute migrations of on-premises workloads to cloud
  • Architect solutions that balance cost, performance, and reliability

Project Leadership

  • Own infrastructure projects from scoping through delivery
  • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations
  • Create and maintain infrastructure documentation and architecture diagrams
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives

Team Support

  • Provide escalated technical support for complex issues (tier 2/3)
  • Mentor and assist IT Support Technician as needed
  • Occasional hands-on end-user support when priorities require

Requirements

  • Full-time, on-site position at our Hillsboro, OR location
  • Ability to work independently and own projects end-to-end
  • This position will regularly drive between two business locations with employee-provided transportation. A clean driving record is desired.
  • Availability for after-hours maintenance windows and urgent system issues—when systems go down, we need someone who responds with urgency
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (servers, equipment)
  • 3+ years of experience in a systems administration role
  • Strong Windows Server administration skills (Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP)
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (VM provisioning, host management, troubleshooting)
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions (Veeam preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Azure administration and hybrid environments
  • Experience migrating workloads between on-premises and cloud
  • PowerShell scripting ability (automation, administration tasks)
  • Linux/Unix command line proficiency
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Not Required but Considered a Plus

  • macOS administration experience
  • Jira administration (workflow configuration, project setup)
  • Network infrastructure experience (switching, routing, firewalls)
  • Hyper-V or other virtualization platforms
  • Advanced PowerShell or Python scripting
  • Security certifications or experience (NIST, CIS benchmarks)
  • Experience in a multi-site environment

What We're Looking For

We need someone who is confident, capable, and ready to own an environment—not someone looking for hand-holding or heavily structured guidance. The ideal candidate:

  • Takes ownership and accountability for their domain
  • Makes decisions confidently and can justify technical choices
  • Figures things out independently; researches and solves problems without waiting for direction
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Maintains a service-oriented mindset even in a senior technical role
  • Is looking for stability and wants to build something long-term
  • Brings energy and a positive attitude to the team
