Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator with strong SQL Server expertise and cloud database management skills to join our healthcare technology team. In this role, you'll work closely with our development teams to design, implement, and maintain the database infrastructure that powers their applications, while also partnering with third-party medical application vendors to ensure optimal database performance and reliability for their systems.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and high availability solutions, combined with the ability to translate complex application requirements into robust database architectures. Experience in healthcare IT environments and understanding of compliance requirements like HIPAA is valuable, as you'll be working with databases that store and protect sensitive patient data.
Key Responsibilities:
· SQL Server Administration: Manage enterprise SQL Server environments including installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, and upgrades across development, testing, and production environments
· Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, conduct query analysis, implement index strategies, and tune SQL Server configurations to ensure optimal response times for critical healthcare applications
· High Availability Implementation: Design and maintain Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure 24/7 database availability for patient care systems
· Cloud Database Management: Manage hybrid database environments, including migration of on-premises SQL Server databases to AWS RDS and optimization of cloud database resource
· Vendor Database Support: Collaborate with third-party medical application vendors to understand their database requirements, optimize database configurations, and troubleshoot database-related issues
· Backup & Recovery Operations: Develop and maintain comprehensive backup strategies, test recovery procedures, and ensure RPO/RTO targets are met for all critical databases
· Security & Compliance: Implement database security best practices including encryption, access controls, and audit logging to ensure HIPAA compliance and protect sensitive patient data
· Database Automation: Develop PowerShell scripts and automation tools for routine database maintenance, monitoring, and deployment tasks
· Documentation & Standards: Create and maintain database documentation, data dictionaries, standard operating procedures, and vendor-specific database configuration guides
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – All Required
· SQL Server Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server administration experience, including SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 in enterprise environments
· Windows Systems Administration: 3+ years managing Windows Server environments, with strong PowerShell scripting abilities
· SQL Server High Availability: Experience implementing and managing Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and database mirroring
· Performance Tuning: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve SQL Server performance issues, including query optimization and index tuning
· Backup/Recovery: Experience designing and implementing enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery procedures
· Cloud Experience: 2+ years working with AWS, including EC2, RDS, VPC, and storage services
· Security Knowledge: Understanding of database security best practices, encryption methods, and compliance requirements
· Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with ability to troubleshoot complex database and infrastructure issues
· Communication: Excellent communication skills for working with vendors, application teams, and stakeholders
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – Strong Candidates Will Have Several
- AWS RDS SQL Server: Experience managing SQL Server on AWS RDS, including migration from on-premises to RDS
- Healthcare IT Background: Previous experience in healthcare environments, understanding of clinical applications and HIPAA compliance
- Database Migration: Experience migrating large SQL Server databases to cloud environments with minimal downtime
- SQL Server Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator or similar SQL Server certifications
- AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database Specialty
- Automation Experience: Infrastructure as Code experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK for database deployments
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with SQL Server monitoring tools (SQL Monitor, SolarWinds, Datadog, etc.)
- PowerShell Advanced: Advanced PowerShell scripting for SQL Server automation and management
- Multi-Vendor Experience: Experience supporting databases for multiple third-party applications simultaneously

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
