Job Summary
World Services is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a federal client to provide full life-cycle software engineering support for enterprise HR applications. This role designs, codes, tests, and maintains secure and scalable systems using modern development frameworks and programming languages. The developer works within Agile teams to deliver reliable solutions that enhance the performance, stability, and interoperability of critical HR systems.
Key Responsibilities
Core Functional Duties
- Write efficient, maintainable, and scalable code in PHP, TUI, Moodle, Lucee ColdFusion, Java, C++, JavaScript, and SQL.
- Diagnose and resolve software defects quickly and effectively.
- Work effectively within cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and QA engineers.
- Participate in peer code reviews, providing constructive feedback to improve code quality.
- Complete assigned tasks within agreed-upon timelines while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Actively contribute to sprint planning and deliver on commitments during Agile cycles.
- Provide clear, concise documentation for code, APIs, and system designs.
- Follow coding standards, guidelines, and best practices consistently.
- Ensure that applications perform well under varying conditions and scale effectively.
Applications and Systems Development
- Participate in full systems development lifecycle activities including design, coding, integration, testing, and implementation.
- Collaborate with the Systems Architect to translate functional requirements into technical specifications and code modules.
- Integrate new or enhanced systems with legacy environments using secure APIs and data connections.
- Support migration and modernization of ColdFusion- and Oracle-based applications to new web-based architectures.
Maintenance, Enhancement, and Support
- Maintain and enhance existing systems to meet evolving requirements and security standards.
- Implement bug fixes, performance improvements, and technical refreshes as directed by program leadership.
- Support web development initiatives and ensure alignment with Section 508 accessibility and security compliance.
- Participate in change- and release-management processes, ensuring configuration control and proper documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in software development, systems maintenance, or modernization.
- Demonstrated proficiency in PHP, Java, SQL, Lucee ColdFusion, and related front-end and back-end technologies.
- Experience with version control (GitHub or GitLab) and automated testing frameworks.
- Understanding of Agile and SAFe methodologies; experience participating in sprint planning and reviews.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on performance optimization and code quality.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities to collaborate across technical and business teams.
