Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer to join our dynamic software development team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems that support scalable web applications and services. This role requires a strong foundation in various programming languages, frameworks, and database technologies, with a focus on creating efficient, secure, and high-performance backend solutions. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with front-end developers and other stakeholders to deliver seamless user experiences and innovative software products.

About the Role

We’re building a real-time emergency response platform where reliability and speed matter. As a Backend Engineer, you’ll own critical services and integrations end to end—taking loosely defined problems and turning them into production-ready systems.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building from scratch, making architectural decisions, and leading by example in a fast-moving startup environment.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design and development of microservices powering real-time workflows.
• Build and own third-party integrations from scratch API design, webhooks, authentication, data mapping, retries, observability, and long-term maintenance.
• Design event-driven systems using Kafka for real-time processing.
• Architect and optimize data models using MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Implement real-time communication using WebSockets.
• Own platform and infrastructure: Kubernetes on cloud, Helm-based deployments, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices around scalability, reliability, testing, and observability (Open Telemetry).
• Collaborate closely with frontend teams using React and Next.js to deliver seamless end-to-end features.
• Own features from idea → design → implementation → production → monitoring.
• Mentor engineers, review code, and raise overall technical quality.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong backend experience with Python microservices.
• Proven experience building and owning third-party service integrations end to end.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, messaging (Kafka), and relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and IaC in cloud environments.
• Comfortable working with vague requirements and driving technical decisions independently.
• Startup mindset: move fast, take ownership, and solve problems pragmatically.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; comfortable working fully in-office.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $110,862.43 per year
