Position: Senior System Administrator
Location: Carlsbad, NM (Onsite 1 week/month + Remote)
Contract: DOE – Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to provide mission-critical IT support for the Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). This role is responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and compliance of enterprise and legacy systems, with a strong emphasis on DOE and NQA-1 quality assurance standards. The position is primarily remote, with periodic onsite support in Carlsbad, NM.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, patch, and maintain enterprise networks and legacy systems in compliance with DOE/NQA-1 standards.
• Support and troubleshoot Linux, Solaris, and Windows servers, including high-performance storage systems such as BeeGFS.
• Proactively monitor system health, logs, and performance metrics; resolve incidents and minimize downtime.
• Test, validate, and deploy system upgrades and bug fixes in controlled environments.
• Maintain accurate DOE/WIPP-compliant documentation, including system changes, validation, and QA records.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational continuity and cybersecurity compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience administering and maintaining complex networks and legacy systems under NQA-1 QA requirements.
• Hands-on expertise with Linux, Solaris, and Windows server environments, plus experience with BeeGFS.
• Education/experience equivalency:
• Master’s degree + 4 years, OR
• Bachelor’s degree + 8 years, OR
• Associate degree + 10 years, OR
• 12 years of directly related experience with no degree.
• U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain DOE clearance.

Work Location

• Onsite Requirement: Must work onsite in Carlsbad, NM 1 week per month.
• Remaining work may be performed remotely, subject to DOE/WIPP approval.
