Knowledge and Experience:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Transportation, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 2+ years of experience in transportation technology, IT support, or system administration preferred.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of onboard vehicle technologies and basic computer networking.
- Excellent organizational and tracking skills.
- Effective communicator with both technical staff and external vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of AVL/GPS, fare collection systems, and mobile data communication devices is highly desirable.
- Split between office-based work and occasional fieldwork to support ITS technicians or oversee technology installation.
- May require occasional after-hours availability during system outages or upgrades.
Key Accountabilities:
System Monitoring & Support
- Monitor the performance and status of ITS systems, including AVL/GPS, farebox systems, modems, radios, video systems (e.g., AngelTrax), and other onboard technologies.
- Maintain basic troubleshooting and support capabilities to assist ITS technicians in resolving field-level technical issues.
- Track system performance, collect feedback, and escalate unresolved issues to vendors or higher-level technical teams.
Vendor Coordination & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ITS vendors to ensure timely maintenance, upgrades, and system improvements.
- Track vendor deliverables, service level agreements (SLAs), and maintenance schedules.
- Document and communicate vendor performance and any deviations from expected service levels.
System Evaluation & Reporting
- Continuously evaluate the current ITS systems to identify operational gaps or inefficiencies.
- Prepare regular reports on system status, incidents, upgrades, and suggested improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop improvement plans for ITS functionality and data quality.
Technology Deployment & Onboarding
- Oversee the deployment, configuration, and upgrades of onboard ITS components including modems, radios, GPS/AVL units, Zonar, DriveCam, video surveillance (AngelTrax), and farebox systems.
- Support onboarding and training processes related to new ITS equipment for drivers, maintenance staff, and administrative users.
- Maintain documentation and logs for hardware/software installations and updates.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure systems are compliant with applicable regulations and internal policies related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and transportation standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of ITS hardware inventory, software licenses, and maintenance records.
