About the Role
We are looking for a skilled SQL Server Administrator to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing SQL Server environments for our clients. You’ll play a key part in delivering reliable, scalable, and high-performing database solutions, supporting mission-critical applications in enterprise environments.
You will work closely with our developers, DevOps engineers, and client stakeholders to ensure database operations align with broader system and business goals. This is a fully remote role but requires work hours aligned to U.S. Eastern or Central Time zones.
Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server instances across multiple environments
- Manage database performance tuning, backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies
- Implement and manage database security policies, user access controls, and auditing
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and identify root causes of performance bottlenecks
- Develop and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and best practices
- Work collaboratively with engineering and DevOps teams on deployment pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC)
- Support and participate in data migration, transformation, and integration initiatives
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to clients and internal team members when needed
- Ensure high availability and resiliency of database environments using tools like clustering and Always On availability groups
Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
- Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, query optimization, and index strategies
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, including native SQL Server tools and third-party solutions
- Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex T-SQL queries and stored procedures
- Familiarity with cloud-based database hosting (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is highly preferred
- Exposure to PowerShell, automation scripts, and CI/CD pipelines for database deployment is a plus
- Strong understanding of database security principles and compliance standards
- Effective communication and documentation skills
- Consulting experience or client-facing communication skills is a big plus
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data warehousing or business intelligence platforms
- Familiarity with tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or Quest Spotlight
- Experience with high-availability strategies (e.g., Failover Clustering, Always On, Log Shipping)
- Knowledge of additional database platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL) is a bonus

- Remote-based role; must work U.S. Eastern or Central Time hours
- Preference given to candidates in the Midwest, Eastern, or Southeastern U.S.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $185,000.00 per year
