About Slung.ai

Slung.ai is on a mission to bring radical transparency to the opaque world of commercial real estate. We are an AI-native company building the definitive financial intelligence platform for an industry that runs on unstructured data. Our platform ingests complex financial statements and uses AI to provide property owners with a clear, actionable strategy to improve the financial health of their properties.

Backed by a ~$1M pre-seed round, we are a small, ambitious team of experts from Harvard, Princeton, and Notre Dame with deep experience in both real estate and technology. We are building a generational company, and we are looking for a world-class engineer to join us in person at our Bellevue headquarters.

The Role

As our first Founding Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of our engineering team, working alongside our CTO to build the core intelligence of the Slung.ai platform. This role is a unique blend of Applied Scientist, Software Engineer, and Machine Learning Engineer, requiring a strong background in leading the development and implementation of state-of-the-art ML systems. You will not just be writing code; you will be making foundational architectural decisions that will shape the future of our company.

Your primary mission will be to own the development and deployment of our proprietary benchmarking models, build a robust and secure backend, and lead our migration to a major enterprise cloud platform.

What You'll Do

• Machine Learning & Data Engineering:
• Design, build, and deploy the machine learning models that are the core of our benchmarking engine.
• Develop a robust data pipeline for ingesting, cleaning, and normalizing financial data from a wide variety of unstructured sources.
• Work directly with our CTO to continuously refine our proprietary algorithms and expand our data moat.
• Backend & Security:
• Architect and build scalable, secure, and maintainable backend services using Python and Flask.
• Implement best-in-class security practices to protect our proprietary data and ensure the trust of our users.
• Own the development of our core APIs and ensure they are robust and well-documented.
• Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps:
• Lead the strategic migration of our entire infrastructure from our current deployment platform to a major enterprise cloud provider (GCP preferred).
• Build and manage a scalable, production-grade cloud environment using modern DevOps practices (e.g., CI/CD, containerization with Docker).
• Ensure the reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency of our cloud infrastructure.

About You

• You have 8+ years of experience delivering customer-facing ML and AI products at scale.
• You are drawn to solving hard, ambiguous problems and have a passion for building high-quality, well-engineered products.
• You have firsthand experience on why it's important to write high-quality code from day one, not just when it's time to go to production.
• Constant learning and growth are an important part of who you are.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications.
• Professional programming experience in Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, or distributed computing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience leading a strategic cloud migration (e.g., to GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Expert-level skills in one or more of the following: time series forecasting, natural language processing (NLP), classical machine learning, or deep learning.
• Ability to translate complex business problems into machine learning solutions and effectively communicate the underlying mathematical concepts.
• Experience in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
• Experience with AI-native development tools.
