Sr. Cloud Engineer

Remote (First 90 Days Hybrid – Frankfort, KY)

Ongoing Contract

Brooksource is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to support a large-scale cloud migration initiative for a public-sector organization. This role will play a key part in migrating legacy systems and data environments to a modern, in-house cloud platform.

The Cloud Engineer will work closely with a System Integrator (SI) and internal IT teams, providing senior-level technical expertise and architectural guidance throughout the migration process. This individual will have meaningful autonomy in evaluating environments, recommending solutions, and helping shape long-term cloud strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the migration of legacy data archives and case management systems to a modern cloud-based environment
  • Provide architectural insight and technical leadership when collaborating with a System Integrator and internal IT stakeholders
  • Assess existing infrastructure and recommend best-practice cloud solutions
  • Assist in designing and implementing cloud architecture (primarily AWS and Azure)
  • Help guide the transition away from legacy/mainframe systems
  • Ensure cloud solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term modernization goals
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to support a smooth migration process

Required Qualifications

  • Senior-level experience as a Cloud Engineer or Cloud Architect (or near-architect level)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, migration strategies, and system modernization
  • Experience working alongside System Integrators or third-party vendors
  • Ability to provide architectural recommendations and technical direction
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative but autonomous role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale data or application migrations
  • Background working in highly regulated or complex environments
  • Familiarity with legacy system modernization or mainframe sunset initiatives

Pay: $60.00 - $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
