CNC Machinist Job Description

Summary:
The machinist position will provide production support of manufacturing operations through setup, programming, qualification and operation of various manual and CNC machines. The position will involve design and modification of various production setup and fixture hardware and will involve extensive use of inspection equipment to ensure product conformance to specifications.

As a Programmer/Machinist, some of your essential duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Performs programming, set-up and operation of CNC machine tools and other fabrication equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance such as inspecting/replacing fluid levels; inspecting/replacing filters and belts; performing visual inspection.
  • Performs routine dimensional and visual inspection of product per procedure, specification or print using basic measuring equipment (calipers, micrometer, scale, indicators).
  • Maintains safety practices related to machining; (wear protective clothing, eyeglasses, as required).
  • Ensures compliance to applicable policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participates in set up reduction/process improvement teams to increase process efficiencies

Responsibilities:

  • Experience with more complex, multi-axis CNC machine, such as 3-5 axis CNC mill is highly desirable.
  • Excellent computer & programming skills using CAM software, 3D, CAD software and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Mastercam (CAM) and Solidworks (CAD) preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to interact/coordinate activities with others.
  • Ability to read and effectively interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to effectively complete inspections to demonstrate that parts meet drawing and specifications requirements
  • Experience with HAAS CNC Mill and Lathe Preferred.
  • Ability to use good judgment to achieve organizational goals in a self-directed manner
  • Attention to detail and the ability to record and document applicable data
  • Keen understanding and knowledge of manufacturing related safety issues.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and/or completed trade school study relevant toward CNC machine manufacturing.
  • 4 to 7 years’ experience working in a highly dynamic, innovative, tight tolerance, complex part prototyping and/or production environment, with responsibilities in CNC machine operation, programming, cutting tool selection and shop maintenance.
