Job description

Job Title: Full Stack Developer (Web + Python) Contract Work

Job Overview:

Darcy Solutions is seeking a skilled Contract Full-Stack Developer (Web + Python) to join our growing team. This role is ideal for professionals experienced in building modern web applications and backend services, with a focus on clean design, usability, and structured knowledge management. We seek someone who combines a commitment to sustainability with the drive to work closely with colleagues across disciplines to deliver thoughtful, lasting solutions.

This project-based role offers the opportunity to build Darcy’s internal knowledge platform - a system that will replace spreadsheets with a robust, user-friendly web application. You will be building tools used directly by Darcy’s engineers, geologists, and operations & construction staff, while working closely with the Director of Data Solutions to ensure the platform is effectively linked to a graph database as the central source of structured knowledge.

With funding from the NSF, DOE, USDA, State of Minnesota, and climate investors, Darcy is developing innovative groundwater-based geothermal systems that provide sustainable heating and cooling for commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings. Our novel approach reduces greenhouse gas emissions and lowers energy costs, delivering a sustainable and cost-effective solution for building owners and communities alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front-End Development: Build intuitive forms, dashboards, and workflows that allow engineers and project teams to capture, view, and update project and well information in an intuitive way.
  • Backend Development: Develop APIs and services (Python - FastAPI/Django/Flask) that handle validation, business logic, engineering calculations, and connections to a graph database.
  • System Modernization: Translate existing spreadsheet- and SharePoint-based workflows into a centralized web application with improved reliability and governance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Darcy’s engineering, geology, operations, and project management teams to understand their domains and workflows, and partner with the Director of Data Solutions to ensure the app and backend services are properly linked to a graph database.
  • Quality & Maintainability: Write clean, testable, and well-documented code. Qualifications Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building web applications, with expertise in Python-based backend services and modern JavaScript frameworks on the front end. • Ability to design and implement user-friendly forms and dashboards for technical and non-technical users.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON; experience designing or consuming APIs.
  • Experience with authentication/authorization systems (SSO, role-based access).
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub in a collaborative environment, including branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and managing sync between local and remote repositories.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and field teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience designing applications to replace spreadsheet-heavy workflows.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, mechanical engineering, and/or groundwater systems is a plus.
  • Experience with deploying and maintaining apps on cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge or exposure to graph databases and knowledge graphs
