Job description

GENERAL DEFINITION

Developer to support the strategic goals of the Information Technology Department.

As a Database Administrator, this position ensures secure and stable access to County data, manages database upgrades, maintains backup and audit operations using SQL management tools, and develops data recovery plans.

As a Database Developer, this role evaluates and integrates new database solutions, develops applications and reports for improved user experience, and provides technical leadership on projects. The developer works closely with users to understand their needs and implement efficient, standards-based solutions.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Assistant Director IT/Software & Operations.

DBA/DB DEVELOPER TYPICAL TASKS

  • Design, develop, and maintain in-house database solutions based on departmental needs and county ordinances; provide documentation and training for end-users.
  • Define metrics and KPIs; build dashboards and reports to visualize data insights.
  • Serve as a liaison between end users and vendors to ensure database jobs, interfaces, and code are functioning properly; assist with troubleshooting as needed.
  • Create and manage repositories, views, and custom data access tools for dashboards, reports, and integrations; follow best practices in data modeling and design.
  • Develop and maintain SSIS packages for internal and third-party systems.
  • Implement and monitor database backups, scheduled jobs, and routine maintenance.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify backup integrity and enforce security standards.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring alignment with industry standards

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and related tools. They should be experienced with Windows OS, Office 365, and SQL development utilities. A solid understanding of relational database design and maintenance is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines, and be skilled in BI software, data analysis, and report development. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills are essential. The role requires someone who is detail-oriented, logical, and capable of handling multiple priorities, with an understanding of project scheduling, time management, and leadership principles.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in computer science, information management or related field with at least three years experience as analyst or programmer and SQL Server database administration, or related position. Extensive experience with database design and management and Business Intelligence design and development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping. Some lifting or carrying of objects of light weight may be required. The work environment is typical office environment with adequate desk, seating, and lighting for performing desk and personal computer work.

Pay: $53,495.00 - $69,544.00 per year
