T Manager, Infrastructure Operations (Direct Hire)
Location: Northern Suburbs of Chicago (Wheeling, IL area)
Schedule: Full-Time, On-site (Mon–Fri with occasional Saturday/on-call support)
Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 base salary + discretionary bonus

The Opportunity
A stable, privately held manufacturing company is looking for a hands-on IT Infrastructure Manager to lead enterprise IT systems across multiple local facilities. This is a high-impact, leadership-focused role for a technically skilled and proactive individual who will take full ownership of the company's on-premises infrastructure. As the lead IT resource, you will manage all operational aspects, ensure the high availability of systems in a 24/7 production environment, and mentor a small, dedicated technical team.
Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and maintain secure and high-performing on-premises infrastructure systems to support a multi-site manufacturing and distribution environment.
• System Administration: Directly administer and maintain critical systems, including VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter) and all related Windows server roles (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies).
• Network & Security Oversight: Manage local and wide area networks, storage systems (SAN/NAS), firewall configurations, and implement robust cybersecurity protocols.
• Operational Excellence: Monitor system performance, proactively address issues to minimize downtime, and ensure the reliability of IT services in a 24/7 production setting.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and support a small team of 2–3 IT helpdesk and support staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and problem-solving.
• Strategic Collaboration: Work with business leaders to align IT infrastructure with company-wide operational goals and participate in strategic planning for long-term IT investments and lifecycle management.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain up-to-date documentation of all systems, network architecture, and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with IT policies and data security regulations.
• On-Call Support: Provide occasional weekend and on-call support for critical infrastructure issues as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in IT infrastructure, with a minimum of 2–3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Technical Expertise: Strong, hands-on experience with on-premises server environments, VMware virtualization, and Active Directory.
• Hardware & Storage: In-depth knowledge of server hardware, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and firewalls.
• Troubleshooting: Exceptional troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., VMware, Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL) are a plus.
• Location: Must live within 25 miles of Wheeling, IL.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, and automation tools.
• Understanding of DevOps environments and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience supporting multi-site operations within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
