Job description

Title: Database Specialist

Salary: $67 - $70 hr

Clearance Requirement: DoD Secret Clearance

Location: Govt Site in Annapolis, MD and/or Fort Meade, ME


We’re looking for a highly experienced Database Administrator with strong Oracle and SQL Server skills, and deep understanding of DoD cybersecurity standards like DISA STIGs and RMF. You’ll lead database projects, guide teams, and support secure, efficient data operations across virtual and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:

  • Manage and maintain Oracle and SQL Server databases
  • Design, analyze, and optimize database systems
  • Oversee database projects and ensure DB compliance with business needs
  • Use data modeling and performance analysis for system improvements
  • Plan long-term database strategies and manage resources
  • Present DBMS concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ensure data models and object definitions are technically sound and aligned
  • Must have any IAT Level I or Level II certification

Technical Environment:

  • Work with VMware, vCloud, KVM, AWS (including GovCloud/IL6), and Azure (Gov/Commercial)
  • Handle backup, recovery, and security operations for Oracle, SQL, and MySQL
  • Use best practices for installation, backups, snapshots, and storage performance
  • Perform security hardening and follow CIS Benchmarks & DISA STIGs

Specialized Skills:

Experience with Oracle GoldenGate and database synchronization (SQL
  • Oracle)
  • Manage DB operations across Windows/Linux systems
  • Write procedures, workflows, and documentation for junior DBAs
  • Coordinate with devs, sysadmins, and end users for updates and issue resolution
  • Communicate recommendations and actions to stakeholders and leadership

Performance & Upgrades:

  • Perform upgrades, patches, and ensure high availability and data integrity
  • Support developers in database design choices to optimize application performance
  • Contribute to system scalability, redundancy, and reliability goals
