The Impact You’ll Make
You are the in-house Swiss CNC expert—the person everyone turns to when a tolerance drifts or a new material arrives. Roughly how your time breaks down:
Responsibility
- Troubleshoot & Coach – Diagnose issues on Citizen sliding-head lathes, adjust tooling / offsets, refine fixturing, and mentor operators. (Approx. 50%)
- New-Job & Process Development – Plan tooling, create prove-outs, and refine machining strategies for one-off and short-run parts. (Approx. 20%)
- PartMaker / CAD-CAM Programming – Write and optimize programs (multi-channel) for tight-tolerance components; integrate with SolidWorks models. (Approx. 15%)
- Continuous Improvement – Lead root-cause investigations, DFM feedback, and capital/tooling evaluations. (Approx 10%)
- Prototype Support & R&D – Partner with engineering to push the envelope on new product lines. (Approx 5%)
This is not a “behind-the-desk programming” role—you’ll be on the floor, sleeves rolled up, driving excellence across every Citizen machine.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 10–15+ years hands-on Swiss CNC experience in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
- Deep expertise with Citizen machines (M-, L-, or A-series) including complex sub-spindle and live tooling operations.
- PartMaker mastery—multi-channel programming, process simulation, and post customization.
- Demonstrated success holding tolerances to ±0.0003 in on stainless, titanium, and engineered polymers.
- Proven track record troubleshooting, setting up, and optimizing jobs independently.
- Clear communicator and patient coach; comfortable transferring knowledge to operators and engineers.
Nice-to-Have Extras
- Familiarity with Mitsubishi/Fanuc controls, G-code editing, and macro programming.
- Experience integrating SPC, probing, and in-process inspection.
- Exposure to ballscrews, linear actuators, or other precision motion products.
- Lean / Six Sigma or similar continuous-improvement training.
What Success Looks Like in the First Year
- Critical Swiss jobs meet first-pass yield > 98 % and Cpk ≥ 1.33.
- Setup times drop 25 % through optimized fixturing and documented best practices.
- Operators confidently perform offsets and minor edits without escalation.
- New product introductions hit launch dates with zero unplanned rework.
Compensation & Benefits
