Job description
CSI Companies is actively hiring for a Lead API Engineer / Scrum Master to support a client engagement in the Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance space. This role requires a hands-on technical leader who will both design and develop APIs and serve as a Scrum Master, guiding Agile delivery while contributing directly to engineering efforts. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in NodeJS, AWS, and MongoDB, along with the ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders in an onsite, enterprise environment.
Pay: $60-$65 per hour/based on experience
Hours: 40 hours/week; Monday – Friday, standard business hours EST
Location: Onsite – Cockeysville, MD (4 days/week at client site)

Job Responsibilities:
Serve as Lead API Engineer for backend and integration initiatives using NodeJS
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure APIs and backend services
Act as a hands-on Scrum Master, facilitating Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews)
Lead and mentor development team members, ensuring adherence to engineering and Agile best practices
Leverage AWS services to build and support cloud-native applications
Support data persistence and integrations using MongoDB
Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, and QA teams
Drive sprint execution, remove blockers, and ensure on-time delivery of commitments
Support deployments, troubleshooting, and ongoing system enhancements
Work onsite at the client location four days per week
Minimum Qualifications:
6+ years of professional software development experience
Proven experience as a Lead or Senior API Engineer
Strong hands-on experience with NodeJS for API development
Solid working knowledge of AWS cloud services
Experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL databases
Hands-on experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Ability to perform Scrum Master responsibilities in addition to development
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Willingness to work onsite in Cockeysville, MD four days per week
W2 employment required
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance
Prior client-facing or consulting experience
Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
Experience supporting enterprise-scale applications
