Position Summary: The Backend Developer will design, develop and maintain the backend systems that power Wanna’s real money daily fantasy sports platform. This role requires a collaborative individual who will work with other team members to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.

Essential Functions:

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance solutions, integrating APIs and ensure seamless functionality across platforms using Python and Django to meet product and user requirements.
• Refactor existing features and APIs for improved performance, scalability and reliability.
• Work closely with the front-end team to ensure smooth integration and end-to-end testing for timely feature releases.
• Introduce and experience with new tools, technologies and methodologies to enhance Wanna’s backend infrastructure.
• Write clean, maintainable code, create comprehensive documentation and conduct unit testing to ensure stability and functionality.
• Build systems that scale efficiently to handle increasing user demands and maintain optimal performance.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in a remote environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and printers.

Physical Demands: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, sit for extended periods of time, and lift 20-40 pounds of office supplies. Repetitive motion using wrists, hands, fingers, with the ability to feel and reach with hands and arms will also be required.

• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) working at a computer terminal.
• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.
• Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) standing and walking.
• Good eyesight, normal hearing.
• Ability to move and lift objects, up to 40 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary according to business needs. Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Should not be required.

Required Education and Experience:

• 4 years of experience in backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django framework.
• Expertise in designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of Git for version control.
• Experience working with AWS services (e.g., EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda).
• Familiarity with relational databases and proficiency in writing efficient SQL queries.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead discussions and implement solutions effectively.
• Experience with unit testing and debugging backend applications.
• Passion for sports, gaming and creating impactful user experiences.
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming and frameworks like FastAPI of Flask.
• Knowledge of Dicker and CI/CD pipelines.
