Job description
The Systems Administrator II ensures the stability, security, and efficiency of NerdWallet’s IT infrastructure for our Nerds by designing, implementing, and maintaining key IT systems, including corporate identity, endpoint management, security, networking, and cloud platforms. This role includes evaluating emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, collaborating with security teams, and providing technical guidance to peers and management on infrastructure-related initiatives.
Projects you may be working on in this position include:
Develop and maintain enterprise identity management solutions (e.g., Okta) to securely manage authentication, access controls, and single sign-on (SSO).
Automate user lifecycle management to streamline onboarding and offboarding processes.
Manage endpoint security, compliance policies, and configuration standards using MDM platforms (Jamf, Intune).
Where you can make an impact:
Manage endpoint configurations (Jamf, Intune).
Administer identity and authentication solutions (Okta, AzureAD, SAML, OAuth).
Configure and maintain network security (firewalls, VPN, 802.1x, PKI).
Implement and manage AWS infrastructure using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
Develop automation using scripting languages (Python, Bash/ZSH, PowerShell).
Perform basic Linux server administration (SSH, editing config files, service, and package management).
Respond to escalated IT tickets and troubleshoot issues.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Collaborate with Security, DevOps, HR, and other teams on IT initiatives
Your experience:

Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or equivalent experience.
5 years of experience in network administration and/or system administration.
3+ years experience successfully working in a remote role
Strong knowledge of system software, hardware, and networking protocols.
Experience with virtualization, cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), and scripting for automation.
Understanding of security principles (least privilege, secure design, data protection).
Experience in IT strategy development related to security, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
Proven ability to support and diagnose issues with Mac, Windows, and mobile devices.
Functional understanding of networking principles, troubleshooting, and administration.
Ability to produce and maintain technical documentation and execute projects independently.
Familiarity with compliance controls (e.g., SOX) and security standards (e.g., NIST, ISO) is a plus.
IT certifications in System Administration, Security, Networking, or related fields.
Experience with automation tools (Okta Workflows, APIs, AWS Lambda/Cloud Functions).
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with experience mentoring junior staff.
