Job description

The Online Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and reliability of the organization’s online systems and web-based services. This role supports the IT department by managing web forms, SSL certificates, domain registrations and renewals, and ensuring online systems remain secure, available and up to date.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Independently administer, analyze, and maintain the institution’s online systems and web-based services, ensuring availability, security, reliability, and compliance with institutional standards.

2. Analyze user and institutional requirements to design, configure, test, and implement online data collection solutions, including forms and workflows within Jenzabar J1, JICS, Transact Marketplace, and related systems.

3. Evaluate, test, and validate system upgrades, patches, and releases affecting online systems, coordinating with database administrators and vendors, and determining appropriate implementation strategies.

4. Design, write, modify, and optimize T-SQL/SQL queries and scripts to support data validation, system integration, troubleshooting, reporting, and performance optimization of online systems.

5. Exercise independent judgment in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions impacting online applications and data integrity.

6. Establish, manage, and enforce technical standards for online system configuration, including data structures, security controls, and access requirements.

7. Administer and oversee the full lifecycle of SSL/TLS certificates and domain registrations, including determining renewal schedules, validating secure configurations, and resolving certificate or DNS-related issues impacting system availability.

8. Monitor system performance, security, and data integrity, proactively identifying risks or inefficiencies and recommending improvements or enhancements.

9. Serve as a technical subject matter expert for online systems, providing guidance to ITS leadership and stakeholders regarding system capabilities, limitations, and best practices.

10. Communicate system status, risks, and recommended solutions to faculty, staff, students, and leadership in a clear and professional manner.

11. Contribute to departmental planning and continuous improvement initiatives, including documentation of online system architecture, procedures, and technical standards.

12. Contribute to the overall success of the Information Technology Services department by performing all other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology Services and/or Chief Information Officer.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in related computer technology field from an accredited institution and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Higher Education experience preferred.
  • Microsoft SQL Server experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of T-SQL/SQL
  • Management of online systems required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical proficiency and capability of resolving problems in all phases of systems management while working under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and interact with a wide range of users including students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with confidentiality and tact is extremely necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities as well as be flexible to manage and incorporate change is necessary.
  • The ability to resolve problems in all phases of systems management while working under minimal supervision
