Job description

City Personnel partnered with the State of Rhode Island to search for a Database Administrator. If you have strong data and reporting skills with attention to detail and accuracy, this is the role for you!

Key Responsibilities of the Database Administrator:
  • Ability to interface and transfer data between Excel and a Fleet Management Informational Software platform.
  • Transfers hardcopy material to a digital electronic data format system(s)
  • Issues/ revokes administrative access and sets access controls for fleet software platforms.
  • Assesses database performance by developing protocols to measure results and identify problem areas.
  • Supports database performance by monitoring, evaluating, and resolving processing and programming problems.
  • Secures databases by preparing access and control policies and procedures and implementing disaster recovery procedures.
  • Supports application design by contributing expertise to operations and technical support teams.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to various reporting software systems.
  • Ability to self-manage, spot check, and ensure the accuracy of information entered in electronic database(s)
  • Demonstrates and improves industry knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Candidate must be trustworthy and have the ability to participate in information gathering for investigations without leaking sensitive information.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow direction is important and non-negotiable.
Qualifications of the Database Administrator:
  • Proficiency with Excel, Office Suite, and reporting tools
  • Proficient typing skills (40 words per minute recommended)
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to adapt to new software platforms and integrate when necessary
  • 2–4 years in administrative systems, operations support, or fleet/asset coordination - preferred
  • Strong data entry accuracy and self-audit practices
  • Experience converting hardcopy records into electronic systems
  • Proven ability to handle confidential or sensitive information
  • 1–3 years supporting multiple database systems or enterprise software platforms
  • Experience issuing/revoking user access and managing permission levels - preferred
  • Understanding of database security, backups, and recovery procedures - preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot data or processing issues
  • Prior experience supporting internal users and technical teams - preferred
