Position Summary
We’re looking for a hands-on Integration & Systems Engineer who can design robust API integrations while supporting the backend systems and IT infrastructure that keep GruntWorx running smoothly. This hybrid role blends backend development, API engineering, and IT operations, making it perfect for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and solving complex systems challenges.
You’ll own the full lifecycle of integrations with third-party platforms - designing secure APIs, building backend services, and ensuring the reliability of the infrastructure they run on.
MUST be located within a 4-hour driving radius of Franklin, NC (hybrid/remote, on-site as needed).
Key Responsibilities
API Integration & Development
- Design and implement RESTful API integrations with third-party platforms and internal services
- Manage authentication flows (OAuth2, token-based access) and secure data exchange
- Build and maintain connectors and automation workflows to support business operations
- Collaborate with internal teams to define integration requirements and deliver solutions
Backend Engineering
- Develop backend services using shell scripting and Perl, Java, or C++
- Maintain and optimize applications in a Linux (Ubuntu) environment
- Write and maintain SQL queries and procedures (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions
IT Operations Support
- Manage and monitor internal servers, network configurations, and system health
- Support user account provisioning, access control, and credential management
- Maintain and troubleshoot VPNs, firewalls, and endpoint security tools
- Assist with CI/CD pipeline management and build system maintenance (e.g., Jenkins, Maven)
- Perform software installations, updates, and patching across environments
- Ensure compliance with data security standards and internal IT policies
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software development and API integration with a strong IT background
- Strong proficiency in RESTful APIs, JSON/XML, and authentication protocols
- Experience with backend development in shell scripting and Perl, Java, or C++
- Familiarity with Linux environments and DevOps tools
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Hands-on experience with IT systems administration and support
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of security standards and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, Section 7216)
- Comfortable supporting IT infrastructure and internal tooling

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
