Medical Research Assistant
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Medical Research Assistant to join our research team. The successful candidate will support cutting-edge medical research by assisting with literature searches, data collection, and documentation while adhering to strict confidentiality and ethical standards, including signing a contract for Intellectual Property (IP) and HIPAA compliance. This role requires familiarity with medical terminology, proficiency in AMA and APA citation styles, and a strong understanding of plagiarism to ensure academic integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive literature searches using databases to support research projects.
- Organize and summarize research findings, ensuring proper citation in AMA and APA formats.
- Assist in drafting research reports, manuscripts, and presentations while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive data.
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology to accurately interpret and document research materials.
- Ensure all work is original and free of plagiarism, adhering to academic and research integrity standards.
- Support data entry, analysis, and management using software tools (e.g., Excel, or similar).
- Collaborate with research team members to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Perform administrative tasks, including scheduling, file management, and correspondence, as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field (e.g., Biology, Public Health, Nursing) or equivalent experience. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s) are a plus.
- Literature Search Proficiency: Experience using academic databases (e.g., PubMed, CINAHL) for literature reviews and research synthesis.
- Citation Expertise: Demonstrated ability to format references and citations in AMA (11th ed.) and APA (7th ed.) styles. Familiarity with AMA Manual of Style and APA Publication Manual preferred.
- Confidentiality: Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to handle sensitive medical and research data with discretion.
- Medical Terminology: Strong working knowledge of medical terminology to interpret and communicate research content effectively.
- Plagiarism Awareness: Clear understanding of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, and experience using plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and research software.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting reports and collaborating with team members.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Additional Requirements
- IP and HIPAA Contract: Must sign a contract agreeing to Intellectual Property (IP) terms and HIPAA compliance to protect proprietary research and sensitive patient data.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required for occasional travel to research sites or partner institutions.
- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check prior to employment.
- References: Provide two professional references who can attest to your research skills, work ethic, and reliability. References should include contact information and a brief description of your professional relationship (e.g., supervisor, professor).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a research assistant in a medical or academic setting.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R) or data visualization software.
- Knowledge of ethical guidelines for human subject’s research (e.g., IRB processes).
